Gross vehicle mass on a vehicle! Like whats on the vehicle licence record! We have a bus thats 22,000 gvm and one thats 18,000gvm.They are pretty much the same bus, however the 22,000gvm needs a driver with a class 4, and it would be usefull to bring it down to 18,000 so only a class 2 is required. Cant seem to find much on the nzta website.

That's not unusual with some of those Jap buses. Often see them with 13T or better rear axle ratings. OP, consult a transport engineer. I have heard some will de-rate GVMs even though it is not an excepted practice.

I looked into this a while ago when I was converting a bus into a camper. I emailed LTNZ or LTSA or what ever they call them selfs these days and got a yes it can be done responce but you need to be going through the right channels and was pointed toward VTNZ to follow up the question. I didn't follow through as I sold the bus not long after. So my advise to you would be to wonder into your local VTNZ and ask the question.

Oh, and the best you will get on two axles weight wise is 6000kg on front axle plus 300kg tolerance and 8200kg on rear plus 500kg tolerance so total of 14200kg plus 1000kg tolerance requires a GVM of 15200kg. I also suggest you weigh it as many of these units are now being found to be over weight.

that would still leave 9t on the front axle. rucs on 2 alexs at 22tonne is $1965.55 for 1000km. you never going to run it at that so id do as berg suggests and de-rate it.

Sorry for the confusion, both buses are tag axles

Had a boss 30 years ago who derated a small truck. He had to change the springs , so as to "stop it carrying the heavier weight". Now days, I guess it would have to be "certed" as a modified vehicle. Technically I don't see any problem with it as you are coming down on weight carried so it will be over engineered rather than needing uprating. Hope you win.
