! Define squirt, do you mean the accelerator pump nozzles aren't squirting!
sweetie72,

yea thats it, no visible squirting of petrol as would usually see upon looking down thru the top while manually working throttle arms.

So is it a double pumper!
sweetie72,
Apr 3, 6:00pm
no, vacuum secondaries

Check the cam operation on the linkage which bears against the diagraphm arm(bottom side of the bowl), manually lift it and see if you get pump shot, failing that, the diagraphm might be shot, 4 screws to undo on bottom side of bowl

It will only squirt down the primaries then, can be a range of things, blocked nozzle, punctured pump diaphram.

Yes take the center squirter off, look down the primary throat and in the middle you will see a phillips screw holding the nozzle body, undo and check for blockage

what do u mean centre squirter!
mram,

I meant the nozzle that is in the primary venturi, facing toward the front of the carb, has a single screw and forks off into two

Has anything changed on the carb recently, was it working before! Are you sure there is gas in the front bowl (checked via sight screw on the side)! Haven't played with a holley for a while, but if you pull it back to full throttle, can't you manually push the rod up into the vacuum pot which should then result in a squirt from the rear!

nothing has been changed, plenty of gas in the bowl, will go have another look, thanks.
Watch that, it might give you, and a few others, a better understanding how they work, it WON'T squirt on the secondary side unless the carb you have is a double pumper, which it isn't as you said it's got vacumn secondaries.

haha thanks for that kingfisher. My last several Holleys were double pumpers, been a while since I had a vac sec (as I said in my post).

can i take the nozzle body screw out while carb is still on car! without dropping it into inlet manifold!

Nail a couple of basics first. The pump is activated by a spring from a cam. Check the spring adjustment bolt. I.E. from idle open throttle and watch pump cam and lever and spring.

Yes you can, your throttle plates will stop it from falling into your manifold.

Just to be safe I'd pull the carbie of the intake, then you can go over the whole thing. If you find the squirter is blocked I'd pull the bowls off and look for dirt and clean it out. Do a google search on how to set up the accelerator pump correctly once its back together.

When you do this, also check that the accelerator pump squirter check valve is in place. this is just a little needle that sits in below the screw for the squirters.
