might not be right area to put this but has any one got any history on these raleigh grifter bikes!this is 1979 vintage and can not find much history in nz on them.
I was given a book for Christmas called "Raleigh" by Tony Hadlands, covers almost everything Raleigh ever done. They (Grifter's) were the bike to have if you were a kid in the UK in the '80's not so much in the US (or NZ) where BMX were the number one choice.

I'm restoring (I've had the frame / forks sandblasted, I've repainted them and fitted original decals) a TEAM Raleigh (as in the '70s/early 80s Tour de France winners etc). I've got age appropriate gear to build it up too. Grifters didn't seem as popular here as Dragsters or Choppers.

I think all of the Grifters were imported from the UK! and not many made their way out here.
Trogedon: Sounds like a cool project. I almost bought an old 1950-60's BSA race bike at a swap meet once (not as flash as your Raleigh though) but still would have done up nicely. I'm now restoring a RSW (Raleigh Small Wheel) 16". I've striped it down ready to sand blast. Who did you use for sand blasting!
Not sure what it's going to like to ride with the little wheels.

Sounds way cool. Good to have something that there aren't many of. Sandblasting; I get Brendan at Tigers sandblasting (corner of North Candia and Swanson roads) to do my jobs. He's cheap (so his wife says) and trustworthy.

I've got two Mk2 chopper frames - one has been stripped and sandblasted (but needs a small touch up) and the other is still in the 'waiting to be looked at stage', Need to get all the chrome bits re-chromed. Looking to find somewhere that does copper-coat first, and has reasonable charges. Any suggestions!
Had one u could under a bolt in centre and fold inhalf
