Sorry for all you North Americans reading this message board but MPG in NZ has always been in imperial gallons. If you want US gallons you will need another calculation factor.

235 ÷ x = y for US Gallons. Trust them to be different!

km is the unit you need. kms = kilometre-seconds which is different again. You don't plural abbreviations.
http://www.convert-me.com/en/ this is a good site for all conversions, it handles both Imperial and US gallons at the same time

With these complex calculations, I was always led to believe that to get the final and correct answer you always had to "take away(i.e. subtract) the number you first thought of" Times may have changed!

But why litres per 100 km! How many journeys are 100 km ! I go on km per litre, and even buy fuel by the litre! Sorry people,couldnt resist smart**** bit at the end.
