Good on him for showing good work ethic and common sense. (sadly lacking in todays youths)
Must be a reflection on his mum I suppose.
Just joking Kaz, you have every right to feel proud.

so the prior 10 years of spanners embedded in the lawn ( hopefully, or your shin if unlucky) 13 piece screwdriver sets that only have 4 screwdrivers left in them, and they've been used as cold chisels or punches, of seven sets of sockets and they're all missing the 12, 13, 14, 17mm sockets, of dead rolls of insultape, never any gasket sealer left useful cos the lids been left off, the greasegun is always empty and the rafters are always festooned with grease spirts, the crc can is always empty, and the lead lamp always manages to have a blown bulb, were all worth it huh don't you believe it, even after he has left home he'll be back

i remember mine , my step father had a dismantling yard and got me a day with a mechanic friend. arrived on his doorstep at 8am and he says ok we're going for a drive , 5 minutes later we're at the local aerodrome into his cessna and flying to wanganui , then off to another couple that escape me now and back to his workshop around 3 pm. then he asks what the purpose of the day was , after i told him he goes "ok, well polish the ute ( a35 austin) and you'll have to make up the rest". lmao
the next year was working at gallaghers in hamilton testing electric fence power packs and replacing a diode on the faulty ones then re testing, thoroughly enjoyable.

Kaz, with that attitude he will go far, and his mates will probably tell him how 'lucky' he is to do well.Attitude is the main thing I reckon, skills can be learnt, the right attitude is the main thing. Good job.

Sir ben, as has been mentioned on here already, attitude determines success. If you have the right attitude and drive, it will set you apart from your peers and you will go far. I stand by my original statement though, the average youth of this generation shows much less common sense and an expectation that life will be handed to them on a platter. It is not entirely their fault mind you, they are the want it now generation, who can get easy credit, have had expensive cell phones, gaming consoles etc given to them at an age far too early to understand the value of these items. All of the their friends have these toys, they expect them as well. My generation did not have these "benefits". There was no "Mag & Turbo" type stores will to give me 3k credit for mags and tyres when I got my first car, which I had to save for long and hard to purchase. Add to this that my generation learnt skills from our parents, and as time goes by, each genaration is doing less for themselves and paying others to do it for them. Some of my generation have no practical skills at all, and as a result, their children will have even less.
