with where i can take a 20" tractor wheel in canterbury to get re-centred /have the stud holes re-positioned

robotix1970, Jun 28, 6:20pm
i believe it's called "fill n' drill" then it has to be re-ballanced and i've got a mig welder but don't know how to weld and plus the welding has to be done by a certified welder.

most engineering places will do it, a good engineer should get it sorted easy enough, alternately there is (used to be!) a place called elite wheels that dealt with all things round and automotive. tractor tyre might be a new one on them but seing its a front rim their gear should be big enough. apart from that cant help you really sorry. most of my business goes south of the waitaki

xacoon, Jun 28, 7:38pm
what is the rim for/off!

flat_white_ltd, Jun 28, 7:52pm
'tis the age of "certification", my lad.
.for better or for worse, as the young'uns grow up with fewer & fewer practical skills.
ltickets = $$.
( also for better or for worse) = liabilty.

theres a place in chch that does wheel repairs/mag repairs and even make rims,im not to sure on the name but have seen there work and thought it was rather good

im_andrew, Jun 28, 8:20pm
I dont think it would need to be done by someone certified if its not subject to COF.

Also, 4711 has been replaced by some other standard now.

i got a 20" bedford 8 stud rim and need it changed / reconfigured to a 6 stud rim

robotix1970, Jun 28, 10:35pm
it is subject to cof standard

robotix1970, Jun 28, 10:38pm
Just to clarify the axle setup., it is a 6 stud 1975 TK bedford differential and if it is not dead-centre,it will shake like heck

robotix1970, Jun 29, 10:35pm
kool thankyou for your kind offer Andy_563 as it's an "N E Weld" (neweld) / or mini-mig and it can be used with or without argon / southern-shield gas

snoopy221, Jun 29, 10:40pm
it is a 6 stud 1975 TK bedford
I'd be inclined to think a secondhand 6 stud TK rim would be available cheaper than remachining the 8 stud one.
even if you got it from nth island truck wreckers.

robotix1970, Jun 29, 10:56pm
6 stud bedford rims only came out in a 16" size

snoopy221, Jun 30, 10:38am
AH -ha now i'm with ya the early (as in damn near J beddy) solid 1/4 plate damn near centre rims that damn near all heavy trailers use.
And rather than fit a later diff ya wanta! or are! runnin 20 inches and need just the 1 rim.
if! it's the type i refer to-then rather than weld and redrill.
why not just get a new 6 stud centre made and the old wheel centre spun out and the new one welded in at the offset you require!
Price it that way.IMHO.

robotix1970, Jul 1, 9:19pm
YAHOO! "finally" some that understands what i need done to these 20" rims. Andy_563 where are you! as-in how and when can we hook up so i can learn how to use my mig welder properly please lol (cheesey grin)

Just a word of warning because no-one has mentioned it yet. If the rim is a 'split rim' type, and has a tyre on it you MUST remove the tyre before any welding (probably would anyway, but hey). If you dont, the high tensile ring WILL come off and it WILL kill you. Same goes for putting the tyre back on and reinflating. Tyre shops have a cage for this. Good luck mate.

snoopy221, Jul 3, 12:22am
Agrred re split rim.
However poster*1.
My advice as any basic engineer will tell ya is.
It's easier and better to form a centre and work from it.
I.E. spin up a new centre at 20"" and weld it to ya rim.

May even be a suitabledonor center around from another rim.
