Domed starlock.how to fit?

ambo11, Jul 4, 6:47am
Any tips or ideas on how to fit these things (stainless dome) without denting them! They seem to dent very easily, wondering if there is a simple way, or tool to use! Too tough to push on by hand. To go on 12.5mm axle. Cheers

Don't they have a Rim around the outside edge! piece of steel pipe or a socket that fits over top and a gentle tap. You're putting together a tricycle aren't you!

Hi, no these don't have a rim, and its for an antique mower.but yep now you say that they look like the ones on a tricycle etc.just a standard starlock with a thin stainless cap.be perfect if they did have a rim. Thanks anway!

If you have some time. buy some "knead it" or "metal mend" putty, the stuff that set like concrete(or steel LOL)

Mix a portion then press an old or spare dome into the end to form a fitting tool once set.

pierced has a good idea, you need to have the same shape as the head so the load is spread across the top. make something in the vise first.

normallyyou would use a "cupped" punch to put them on.
