Cheers,You might be the man to tell me which '96 - '98 prados are lsd! Or do they run the same no's as the surf eg AO1Aopen/AO2B lsd etc. understand the 1, 2 etc relates to the no of pinions & ratio!
hrt, ta, covers diffs with letter then 3 digits not the AO3B system. obviously LSD but would be interested to know what ratio.

My 96 Prado had an open diff. Had to lock the centre diff to reverse a trailer up slopes which my pevious Terrano (with LSD) would reverse up easily in 2WD. The Prado was basically hopeless off-road until you locked the centre diff (which is not LSD). Until the centre diff is locked you have no more traction than your worst wheel.

i have a 96 prado, rear is lsd, center and front open
i also have a 98 surf, all open, though the center diff in unlocked awd form gives more traction than the prado does in awd. maybe an lsd center on the surfs!

I may be wrong, but thought Surfs were part-time 4WD, without a centre diff!
