Scams

twosey, May 28, 11:42am
Has anyone heard of a scam at the moment going round where they say they are overseas and have to deliver you the car you won!(someone i know wants to buy a car - she was outbid - then she was emailed and told the sale had fallen through if she still wanted to buy the car)- so a) i want to know how he got her email in the first place. B) says he needs to use a delivery company B.D.E.S for delivery since hes overseas - and she has to pay them, then if shes not happy on delivery they refund the money.

Now this screams SCAM to me - she seems to not think so.So am looking for people to confirm this so she believes me!

Thanks :)

Scam, end of.
Common sense should tell her so

Its a scam. Its been around for years.

Unless the car is a Ferrari 250GTO no one from overseas is going to bid on a day to day car you buy in NZ and go to the hassle of getting it shipped overseas.

In most of the scams they will overpay the auction price with a stolen credit card, ask her to refund the difference then the bank pulls the remainder as its stolen money. In this instance they're just getting the "shipping money".

Walk away.

yeah shes not selling - she wants to buy. the car is local - but the "owner" is currently overseas so has to get it delivered to her.i think shes realised now its a scam so thats good :)but least this can serve as a warning to anyone else!

They simply guess, the person's trademe username -at- hotmail, gmail, xtra, .more often than not one of them will "hit".

My partner works at a Postshop, has stopped at least 3 people falling for this scam, once you send your money via Western Union you will never see your money again. The scammers use fake paypal transactions to send you money, not stolen credit card details as mentioned above.DON`T FALL FOR THIS SCAM. Read safe trading on Trade me.

I had the same thing happen to me. Guy from overseas sent a txt from +442032892491 and email [email protected]. This was his email.

Thanks for the mail.I am very keen. How i wish i could come for viewing andinspection as am currently overseas at the moment and i wantit picked up before i get back. Due to my inability to make a bank deposit,I would be paying via PayPal which is safer for me or bank transfer as well safe. Kindlysend me a paypal payment invoice or create an account atwww.paypal.com if you dont have one or your bank details for me to make payment. I will make aconcrete pick up arrangement with my transport agent who willbe coming over for pick up once you receive full payment intoyour PayPal account. Have a nice day.

Cheers and pls inform other buyers you sold it as am ready to purchase it right away.

My reply was . . . Cash in hand before keys are handed over. Never heard from again.

i had the same thing from someone from malaysia asking this to pay via paypal etc. i led them on for about a week. to the point where i told them i was going to send them account details. Then lmao and when i told them my old man lived over there which he does, it all went cold. told them would be easier for them to pay him direct.

Nothing wrong with using paypal, especially if buying through eBay as they guarantee the sale, so just list your car there if you have interest from overseas. You can't blame the buyer for getting cold feet by insisting on cash, as he has no way of ensuring you'll complete the sale.

andy61, May 29, 2:49pm
The problem is the scammers use a fake paypal setup to con you out of money.

nzeva, May 29, 8:24pm
Again, if you use PayPal through eBay you'll be fine. PayPal is owned by eBay and they certainly won't allow their customers to be ripped off by fake PayPal websites, hence their US$50,000 Vehicle Purchase Protection guarantee.

Just having a tutu with one in the US at the moment. One of those "Too good to be true" scenarios - but what if! It's happened before - women wanting to crap on dirty cheating scumbag by selling his toy for FA.

Seems to have gone cold now I've told them I won't part with a cent unless a mate could view it.
