Just thinking you might find that a 12-14yr old Voyager does not continue the same fond memories of a newish rental !

Thanks for the replies
We rented one in early 2000s and liked the size. We have 4 young children now and the odyssey is feeling a tad small! We know it won't be like having a new car but we are paying cash and can't afford something we'd really like. The ones we've looked at are petrol. I don't want to be paying a whole lot more than we currently do on fuel though!

Rubbish. Odyssey is plenty big enough for 4 kids. Give the Voyager a miss, they are thirsty and unreliable. Its 3.3 litre V6 engine is based on a design that's decades old, maybe even a century, but with fuel injection added to it. Good power though. If you must go bigger in size, the late model Previa is good, but expensive.

They do look great, you may want to look at some of the vans around, they are powerfulandwell equiped inside.Very easy t drive. As the kids get bigger it will accomodate easy.

they are hideous, but on the bright side, you won't need to use condoms any more. This is due to their "instant impotence" effect.

Some of these vehicles seem to do fairly high km's without too many issues, the mechanicals are fairly old fashioned but appear to be pretty robust. But overall I wouldn't count on motoring being as cheap as an Odyssey, it will definitely cost a fair bit more in fuel. A later model Estima may be a better bet.

Ok, thanks everyone, we'll keep looking around. We want something with van space but without the big bubble look. When we have both adults in the front, 2 kids in the middle row, 2 kids in the back row and a pram in the boot of our Odyssey there isn't a lot of space for anything else. I can't even do a full grocery shop if everyone is in the car. We drive to Chch a bit to visit our family and friends but can't fit all our luggage so since the baby was born I've flown with her to free up the back row. We would also prefer something with van doors to make it easier getting the kids in and out.

I think you've answered it ! , a VAN with rows of rear seats. Not the most comfortable (suspension or seats) / quiet / quick , but would still allow enough rear storage with the last 3rd row seat removed. Just not the nicest for long travel.

It's a very good car if your surname is Mobil or Caltex and your uncle is Mr BNZ or Wespac because you'll need your uncle help when it comes to servicing it.
