Council says 'Lines to go' to save money!

Local council is to paint fewer centre lines, and roadside marker posts are out the window too.
Is this happening in your town!
Was wondering why the council was taking forever to paint one local road after a recent reseal. Then a story appears in the local rag to explain. This was the same road that a local fell off and had to spend god knows how long crying out for help. Wonder if the lack of white paint had anything to do with the crash

Cuts in road safety end up costing more in the long run.

Thank goodness smokers and drinkers are paying for everything else

Seems a very odd decision by the Council, given it could expose them to significant legal liability.

Is there a link to the story where the Council states that reason!

Chances are alcohol and speed would have had more to do with that accident than anything else.

That should be 'alcohol, Asians, taxi drivers, bus drivers' etc etc.

I agree. Council is bound by NZTA rules and cannot make their own decisons in these matters particularly if road safety is an issue.

The story of why the council was not bothering painting the road was in the local give away paper ie no link. Drove past the accident site today - it was on a slight curve and a fence had been wiped out. Stoners and the Pissed probably rely on road markings to assist in keeping them on the road. They are handy when you are straight too. The road feels narrower without the centre line.

Painted road markings are obsolete, Road cones aretaking over. Every year they seem to be doubling in number, and are seldom seen spaced more than 2 meters apart. There is even a tree climbing variety, that attaches to tops of norfolk pines.

I would have no trouble with getting rid of the 'rumble strip' lines to save money.
