What does 'MINT CONDITION' mean to you?

richynuts, May 26, 10:53am
To me it is as new and unmarked. STORY so far, I sold some parts to a trader in ok condition and stated will need repaint and polishing to bring back to mint condition, anyhow guy got all up set as he thinks the parts should of been in better condition for what he paid and I should of taken more pics, he wanted a comphensation of $100 or wiil place negative feedback, I said no but compromised and will send him a seat that he wanted, after looking through my e-mails to find his address low and behold I just realised I have dealt with him before, I had bought a motorcycle shock off him described as mint condition but the spring was covered in chips like someone had tried to remove without the right tools, I did not bother complaining and let it go, So do you think I should bring it up with him before I send the other part!.

tigra, May 26, 10:55am
MINTcant and shouldnt apply to cars or parts. It means absolutely just like new and probably unused.

tonyrockyhorror, May 26, 11:17am
As new. And they should state that rather than "mint".

I also despise the term "good condition for its age". Everyone has different expectations on what condition something would be in for its age. It's as pointless as saying "good condition for the work amount of work it's done" - that could mean it's actually completely knackered!

tonyrockyhorror, May 26, 11:17am
Oh, and yes - definitely bring it up.

tgray, May 26, 11:27am
I went to see a car advertised as mint condition and 'no dents'.
When I got there, I saw it was covered in dents! I said you advertised it as no debts, to which she replied that she means no dents since she has owned it!
The only things that are mint condition are new ones, and even then, not always the case.

flashgordon_nz, May 26, 11:50am
its like the "New motor fitted" statement. new! as in crate motor! re-cond! oh, no, then they tell you that it came out of a car at the wreckers, done more kms than the car its now in. some statements are left too wide open for interpretation. LOL

icemans1, May 26, 12:05pm
mint is just rolled off the production line

murray55, May 26, 12:12pm
According to a lot of our "classic" car listers mint seems to mean a heap of crap which I'll list for 10 X the real value hoping some mug will offer half and think he/she are getting the bargain of the century !

tigra, May 26, 1:07pm
Now if she had said "no debts" (as your post) she might have been more accurate

friendly_prawn, May 26, 1:21pm
the way I see it you have two options.
1 send him the seat if it calms him down and saves you a reddy and the loss of the seat is no biggy to you, in which case no need to mention his mint lie to you previously. All no biggy and problem settled.

Or stand up for what you think is right and tell him he gets nothing extra, and explain why.and let him know he lied before about something being mint. You'll risk a reddy then of course.

which is more important to you. Justice or unblemished feedback. Sorry richynuts but only you can decide which option is best for you.

bellky, May 26, 1:32pm
You gotta take mint with a grain of salt in regards to 2nd hand cars and parts like tigra said.

richynuts, May 26, 2:18pm
My plan was to take a pic of the shock he sent me and seat wrapped up all ready to send (I have already sent him pic of seat and he is happy with it and really needs it ) but now tell him it will cost him shipping which was originally going to be free. What gets me the most is the trader tried to by pass TM through my classified which I ignored, if I had bypassed I would now of had the upper hand.

friendly_prawn, May 26, 2:39pm
If that works out ok for you then why not give it a shot!

It's damn hard taken emotion out of the equation some times, but if you can take emotion out of the equation, look at it logically and work out what is going to give you the best out come!

personally I think thatis the best way to handle it.

Its easy to lash out and regret it later.

I think your on the right track mate.

kazbanz, May 26, 3:13pm
Simple question to ask yourself. "did I describe the parts accurately to the best of my ability and did the pictures reflect the condition described!" if so then frankly it sounds like bully boy tactics on the part of the other trader

foxdonut, May 26, 3:30pm
"Mint Condition"

The state of the vehicle when it originally left the factory, therefore It is impossible to restore something to "mint condition".

"Mint"

Its not really that good and the guy selling it has a pretty low standard of what's good or not.

foxdonut, May 26, 3:31pm
In answer to your question though, write back to the guy and tell him to fk off.

gedo1, May 26, 4:39pm
To quote (said in a whisper, please!) E-Bay."Hello sellers, have you ever stopped and wondered what the word "MINT" means when you use it! As in "this item is MINT in box." The word gets used all the time, but often incorrectly. This guide is a plea for item description accuracy.

The term "mint" as an adjective was coined (no pun intended) by numismatists to indicate that a coin looked as if it had just been minted. Other collectors quickly adopted the term. Unlike terms such as "good" or "excellent" which could mean different things to different people, "mint" has a very precise meaning. An object described as in "MINT CONDITION" means, literally, that the item looks as if it just came off the assembly line in the factory; that there is not a single defect of any kind in the product. It is in the BEST possible condition a product can possibly be in.

Because this term is used by collectors, a seller should be aware that what an ordinary person may perceive as perfect may not be sufficient. For example, condition of the box of toys and video games are very important. While a crease in the laminate of the surface of a carboard box may not even be visible to the ordinary buyer or uneducated seller, it is of concern to the collector. Again, because this is a term derived from the collector community, there is an expectation that when it is used, the seller is indicating that he/she can properly evaluate the "collectible" condition of the item."Hope that helpsLOL!

Mint is a fairly pungent weed.

the-lada-dude, May 27, 2:09pm

a.woodrow, May 27, 2:28pm
From what I can gather from the heap of junk cars you see on trademe, the definition of 'mint' is:

Mint az, runs swt, only neds a few tings 4 wof, platez on hold, looks phat on cuttiez lots of spares, soundz nt incld txt me may be keen az 4 swapz

ryans, May 27, 3:20pm
Your feedback is excellent, one bad feedback will make no difference to any future trades you make.
You only want 100% positive feedback because it looks nice, understandable, but you're letting this guy get away with blackmail in order to do it.

If I was you, I would cut your nose off to spite your face and tell this guy to get bent.

neo_psy, May 27, 3:48pm
^^ this.

And if he posts nasty feedback, place a comment that you said "XYZ" in the auction.

turton, May 27, 3:52pm
excellent condition for its age. I guess the 17k corolla thing that is trying to sell is a "mint" car for its kind.

friendly_prawn, May 27, 4:04pm
let us know what your decision was in the end ritchy.
