Hi guys my sump drain hole has been threaded on my dirt track car and replacing the whole sump is not an option , do you guys have any suggestions I was just going to clean it and coat with thread locker . It has to be reasonably good as we have some long races ahead .

Both thread surfaces will have wear .Get rid of the old sump plug and try fitting a brand new sump plug .

Find the best mechanic possible to do the best threading insert. A mechanic who does this on a regular basis to a high standard. i.e mint correct sized drill and the correct thread insert. Find the best crispest threaded replacement sump plug. Right sort of thread treatment on the sump plug before tightening to correct torque.

Another way depending on the sump material/ shape etc can be to get a turner to put an internal thread in a piece of round bar. Weld a piece of metal over the old sump plug hole so the pilot drill is kept centred. Hole saw out the sump plug hole and weld in the piece of round bar.

Yer can JB weld the plug in but if ya do that you've got to do the same with the filler plug.

I'm cheap, I'll wind it in and weld it there/drill it right out then carefully drill another hole and weld a new threaded insert or nut on there with a bolt.
Gotta watch for metal shavings left in the sump though.

I have simply welded a nut on the sump, easy as.
