OK So turners has a presage 2005 for 11500 buy now, approx 90000km, They also have a MPV which they reckon around $22k for 7 seater and 122000kms. Wellington though has a Mazda MPV LW10J3 2005 with only 48000kms at $9850 buy now. Any one make recommendations for 3 kids, tether straps etc. What is the LW10J3 and why is it so much cheaper!

My advice is forget both and buy a VW Touran. Much better vehicle all round, better safety, better features, better economy and nicer to drive.
You just have to be prepared to look through the usual baseless "scare you away from anything European" nonsense from the used import car dealer types.

Touran, limited parts, belt vs chain, open doors vs sliding,.Nup

Limited parts, I don't think so. Mechanically the same as a Golf/Audi A3/Skoda etc etc absolutely loads of parts and very well priced.
Also, not necessarily belt drive. 1.6 is chain and 2.0 is belt. But really avoiding cambelt cars is just cardealer nonsense. You only trade one set of problems for another and given the relative inefficiency of the chain drive options you are cutting off your nose in spite of your face. Overall the VW will always be cheaper to run.
Open doors, sure if its worth the rest of the sacrifices for those then go for gold.
Anyhow, your money and I guess at least you have given it some thought.
