sureley it cant be that hard! sub im getting comes with amp and sub and wiring, all brand new frm sca or ripcoand was wondering if there is anything else needed like fuses etc! for a fresh install in a car thats never had subs before what diffulcity rating out of 10 what would you rate it!

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:01am
If you get a wiring kit it will have a fuse and fuse holder in it.
you need fuse on the power cable from the battery to the amp.
from the amp to headunit you need rca cables & remote wire. The earth for the amp you can secure to a grounding point in the boot.

Don't forget to put the cables under the carpet.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:02am
In terms of difficulty you need to tell me what kind of car you are putting this in!

deanfreeman, Jul 2, 11:02am
the sub im buying is brand new comes with everything cheap as chips too

deanfreeman, Jul 2, 11:03am
a small toyota 1998 spacio (crolla)

My son put one of those kits in his car on Tuesday. I was there to supervise but it was all very straight forward, just be carefull when connecting postive wires anywhere. Disconnect the battery first, install the kit, check all connections 2 or 3 times before you reconnect battery.

I would say 6 out of 10 if you have no experience doing that sort of thing.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:06am
Shouldnt be too hard. But in saying that i have done heaps of audio installs. You will get angry and end up taking out parts that you dont need to. but you'll get there. Oh yeah fusion stuff is crap.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:07am
Were you supervising with a beer in hand!

deanfreeman, Jul 2, 11:11am
is sony anygood!
was going to get that 225 fusion sub that comes with everything but may not anymore dont want to speend too much

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:15am
Dude putting a sub and amp into a car with speakers only amplified by the headunit is a waste of time and it sounds like crap.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:16am
Save your money and buy decent gear. you wont regret it.

twinsforus, Jul 2, 11:24am
Really! I think it would depend on the type of speakers and headunit, before you can make a very broad, general statement like that.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:28am
I dont care what you think. I am right you are wrong. In his last thread he said that he had quite a basic panasonic head unit. It will end up having way to much bass over a very mono type speaker sound. Best bet would be to get a four channel amp with a lot of channel variances

richardmayes, Jul 2, 11:28am
Wiring in car stereo stuff is pretty simple, the hard part (& time-consuming part) is dismantling enough of your car to get down to where you want your wires and components to sit!

A cheap sub & amp is (IMO) a poor substitute for a properly good quality pair of 6" speakers that any reasonable head unit can drive directly; but if you are doing this more so you can feel the doof doof rather than to listen to music, then it will probably serve you well enough!

(I have heard a lot of very disparaging comments about Poosion gear, but then the prices escalate so rapidly as you go up-market that it's probably worth trying out a cheapie for a year or so and seeing if you like it.)

gilligan2, Jul 2, 11:32am
I absolutely agree about the 6" speaker idea. A good way to go for sound is a four channel amp running two 6x9s two 6" and a seperate amp running a sub.

I used to have a fusion competition amp four channels and thats exactly what i had. the amp alone was close to a grand when I got it.

moosie_21, Jul 2, 11:32am
Don't even bother with a 225 watt amp powering a huge sub. If the amp's max power is 225 watts and the subs is around 1200 watts it will just end up overheating the amp, constantly cutting out and annoying the sh*t out of you. Buy an amp that matches the max/RMS power output of the sub. And yes, running a sub straight off the head unit with no amp to back it up is pointless as anything.

attitudedesignz, Jul 2, 11:32am
That's what my son got, there's nothing wrong with it.
I set it up properly for him. He has a good Sony headunit, Sony 6" and Sony 4" in his extra cab ute, so i set it up so the sub' is only used for low frequencies. For a cheap setup it does sound ok.

attitudedesignz, Jul 2, 11:38am
I think the OP is saying the kit is $225 not amp' is 225W.

This is what my young fella bought and it does the job.

depending on the head unit the frequency may not be adjustable to a suitable level.

gilligan2, Jul 2, 12:14pm
Hey Dean you are in invercargill. Do you want to come buy my setup!

zoltec45, Jul 2, 12:16pm
oh FFS.
OP if all you are wanting is a bit more bass to compliment your music then go for it. I had one of those fusion tubes in my 323 wagon and it was good to boost the bottom end a bit. Best part is it has two plugs to unplug and you can pull the thing out to get more boot space.
To the others winging about clarity and tone, its not a competition car and an aftermarket head unit, deacent enough speakers and this fusion sub tube will sound fine and better than the factory junk.
JUST DO IT

zoltec45, Jul 2, 12:19pm
Also those fusion sub tubes come with everything to install.
-Power cable and fuse from battery to sub box.
-Remote power wire
-Ground wire
-RCAs
-straps to bolt it down
-Basic crimps

they also come with a remote on a cable to attach under the dash so you can adjust sub volume if it cant be done by head unit

zoltec45, Jul 2, 12:20pm
You must be speaking from experience to be so definate in your opinion!

gilligan2, Jul 2, 12:25pm
Nope never even listened to music.

If he wants to buy it he will.
My sister has one of those bass tube things in her commodore and it sounds like crap!
