Camaro, the meaning of. Bit of a laugh.

gunhand, Jun 15, 4:08pm
GM used this name on the Camaro (of course) and found it meant "Friend" so they though that was a good idea.
Ford then found it to mean,Shrimp like fish.
Then somone else came up with, Loose Bowls.
found this during some lunch time reading of NZ Classic mag.
Thought it was abit of a laugh.

Glad I don't have one of those in the back yard.

There are a few car manufacturers that didn't do their homework when marketing their vehicle models in overseas markets - http://www.i18nguy.com/translations.html - Ford seems to have a few & the Mitsi Starion is hilarious!

rickroller, Jun 15, 5:03pm
The Mitsubishi Starion 'fact' is rubbish. Starion was an amalgamation of 'Star of Orion'. Mitsubishi used a lot of celestial nameplates in that era, especially for engines (Astron, Orion, Saturn, Neptune et cetera).

Now, you know I never pick on your spelling.but do you mean "Loose Bowls" (ie mixing bowl) or Loose Bowels! (as in poos!)

rob_man, Jun 15, 5:30pm
Could be lawn bowls, loose bowls on the green. Or bowels for that matter, some of those bowlers are getting on a bit.

gunhand, Jun 15, 6:09pm

Just did a translate. Pajero = eclipse.

mm12345, Jun 17, 2:08pm
Oh yes it does - but it's a colloquialism not found in all spanish speaking countries, and not common in others.

neville48, Jun 17, 2:13pm
Probably the same reason I can tell you that down at the supermarket they are giving greenstamps with Tequila.
