Class 3 or 4 licence?

Which class is better to have if you're seeking employment in the heavy vehicle industry!

poppajn, Jul 8, 3:32pm
4 at least, aiming for 5

fox.vanilla, Jul 8, 3:34pm
You can't drive class 3 vehicles on a class 4 right!

U dont need class 3 iv got my 2 and 4 u will get class 3 when you get your class 5 you will get more work and better pay with a 4 over 3

class 3 is a trailer licence. you will need to do class 2 before being allowed to do class 4 (medium size truck to big truck) once you have class 4 you can sit your class 5 which automatically gains the class 3 (class 5 allows big trailers)

So if I don't go for my class 5 for a quite a while would class 4 still be a better choice than 3! :)

if you need a class three depends if you want to tow a trailer or not. if you want to foot it with the big boys and girls with 600-700+ horsepower then you need a class 5 and a hazardous goods licence and a fork lift licence. usually the bigger the rig the bigger the pay packet. i have over 20 years as a trucker, take my advice unless you like being away from home and family, working long unsocial hours for ungrateful customers and sleeping in the back of a truck where you freeze in winter or cook in summer find another job. ps the money is not as good as it once was.

i totally agree with ya on that .,the pay is crappy for the amount of hours that you can do., Just have look at this link
"http://www.nzta.govt.nz/-
about/media/releases/740/news.-
html" or ask a certain company in the north island and you'll understand what i mean lol

Can,t agree, the firm I work for runs 450 hp units, the odd 500 and a few around 400, but the coin paid is real good. Just a rural transport too.

In general yes especially if you are wanting work, the only class 3 units I see around are 2 axle semis pulling 2 axle trailers carting empty containers around Auckland couldn't think of a worse job, get your class 4 and go and work for a co that runs clas 5 trucks, then after 6 months go and pay 80bux for class 5 learners and if you're lucky the company may put ya thru the test.
