hi i've got a nissan cefiro. just been told it needs new water pump which is $500 plus. plus needs $400 for stuff to get wof. these are selling for $2000 or more for it's milage but mine has dints and dents and broken body kit etc but other wise is a good car but it's done 218,000 kms. when do you stop fixing it. i love my car but dont wanna spend all the money (which I might add i dont have) on fixing it if it's gonna continue crapping out. and before you all give me a bollicking its been serviced regularly and all that .
ideas please! I cant really ask mechanic cause they're gonna say "yeah fix it" so i keep coming back with broken car.

So what are you going to replace it with! another car that will need money spent on it eventually. The cefiro is a reliable ol bus usualy. In this case I say better the devil you know

Yeah, unless you got a few grand stashed or are happy to get finance to get a newer, tidier model vehicle - then you may aswell fix it up. If you beleive it wont add value fixing it up (so will remain at the $2K resale mark) then biff it. But really is your choice. May be someone else with advice but what else could be said!

I had a 1999 cefiro. Quite an expensive pos to fix. Kept breaking down. My advice, sell it and move on to something more reliabe. I quite mine for $2500after spending $ on it. I had had enough of throwing money at the heap. Our 98 falcon just goes and goes with out any money being chucked at it. Fare more reliable. Starters motors are a common failure around the 200k mark so expect to fork out for a starter motor soon. new ones are around $400 although you would probably get a recod' one cheaper. sell the heap!

only got one other quote as only other mechanic acessible by me doesnt really give quotes. but one i got said can be between $400 and $800 and since i dont want to risk $800 have just gone with original guy who is now fixing my breaks for only an extra $80 so that's good it thought for what i have. dont want to drive for miles in car with no water in engine and risk destroying it completely just to save a few bucks

Not everyone drives a Rolls Royce.

The V6 3L / 2.5L if that's what it is are really robust / reliable cars. Only issue is they crack the exhaust manifold round the rear bank.

how was it dignosed with a leaking water pump! I think from memory there a big job as its run by the timing chain and sit behind the timing cover.

pressure tests he said. he said fixing it is a big job and hence high price to fix it. he said the finding the prob is only half hour labour so that's ok.
