check the level when it's hot, some are checked while ideling in nuetral.

9 times out of 10 it will have it written on the dipstick when to check it. Most will be either running in park or running in neutral and above a certain temperature.

some models have to be checked whilst in drive and running, i find if you follow a ute closely with the bonnet up then someone on the back of the ute can lean in and check it for you.

If it has to be checked in drive, put it in drive and crank the handbrake on then get out and check it yourself!
