I just cannot see the value in these older American V8's. Genuine rare muscle cars yes I can understand . but otherwise I think they are grossly overvalued for what they are .not particularly quick, thirsty, uncomfortable, poor build quality, noisy, abominable handlers .etc etc.

bellky, Jul 14, 12:50pm
Mustangs are sweet. I'm not of the generation (really) that wants one but I think they're cool, and noone can argue they are not a motoring icon. I'd like a 4/71 302'd 64 1/2 with og paint.

sifty, Jul 14, 12:55pm
I can see the point in that far more than some spotty youth spending the same amount on a 1990's generic japanese sedan, and only succeeding in creating a monument to bad taste

lookoutas, Jul 14, 1:38pm
The plus aspect is that murray won't buy one.

gman35, Jul 14, 2:04pm
I always say the same about Aussie "classics" , they were only ever based on cheap transport in the first place , yet are now worth the same or more than some originally much more expensive Astons / Ferraris / insert "desirable brand" here. The fact that they raced as far as I know only in Australasia , and are not particularly known well in the rest of the world only adds to the mystery. (And this is from a "Ford" man who's dad once owned a tidy 71 XY GT).

wheels36, Jul 14, 2:08pm
Better value than the 2 105e anglias for 27k id saylmao

murray55, Jul 14, 2:16pm
Couldn't agree more .although if people are prepared to pay horrendous prices for old Holdens, Falcons, Valiantsjust because they are old and hard to come by so be it .I just cant understand it myself when the are incredibly mundane vehicles.

bellky, Jul 14, 2:19pm
They have atmosphere, nostalgia, and patina, and they are simple. Simple really.

murray55, Jul 14, 2:23pm
Haha very true .more examples of sellers asking laughable prices hoping someone out there will take the bait, buy for half the price and go away thinking they have bought the bargain of the century ! .when in fact they should have paid quarter the price !

gunhand, Jul 14, 2:25pm
Yep for sure, many have that "patina" about them for sure. Most call it RUST though.

murray55, Jul 14, 2:26pm
Sure I don't deny that , what I cant understand are some of the prices being asked !

oscar220, Jul 14, 2:31pm
I cant understand what people see in BMW's but it doesnt worry me enough to start a threadabout it.

bellky, Jul 14, 2:36pm
I think owners of those cars ask a price that they would be reasonably happy to sell for. Fortunately for them, if they don't get that price it's ok, because they'll just keep them in the shed ;-)

bellky, Jul 14, 2:37pm
Haha, I'm sure you realise good cars don't have much rust.

gunhand, Jul 14, 2:41pm
For sure there are. Just the cost to get them that way would scare a few. But theres tons of after market stuff to deal with it most of the time.
Ive had a few yank cars and been invloved with shitloads of them. They hide many a secret.

bellky, Jul 14, 2:47pm
Imo, a car that's good now, was always a good car.

gunhand, Jul 14, 2:50pm
I agree, if you get photo history of a rebuild then buying one done is way cheaper than doing a resto. No history or being able to talk to the shop who did it then wander away.

murray55, Jul 14, 3:00pm
It's not so much what people see in them, it's the sky high prices they ask.
What is this message board for then if not to voice an opinion on a matter .it's not about being worried enough to speak up, more about a discussion over a particular topic which is of interest to that person.

bellky, Jul 14, 3:03pm
Fair enough^. I'm talking about GOOD cars, you know ones that have never been panel beated, or only painted once; not welded on at all, and not bogged either - good straight original cars.

cuda.340, Jul 14, 3:05pm
i wasn't even trying to sell my 'cuda but got offered $68,000 nz, thats not a bad price but i would want more.

gunhand, Jul 14, 3:09pm
Few and far between, mind you that HZ in Aussie is like that.

magoo2, Jul 14, 3:41pm
thats not expensive for what it is. I wouldnt buy it but I would certainly pay that sort of money for a 1950s american car in similar condition

trogedon, Jul 14, 5:02pm
I agree with the OP. I like classic cars but I can't understand the motives of someone wanting a USA 60s, 70s, 80s USA door slammer barge.

rob_man, Jul 14, 5:47pm
There are a limited number of yank tanks that appeal, a 302 Camaro factory TransAm series would be one of them followed by any of the Boss Mustangs or a 66 Shelby.
Edit for those about to say there is no 302 Chev motor.

pebbles61, Jul 14, 6:58pm
Have never understood the yank tanks, so big, but so little room inside in comparison. Seems like such a waste to me.
