from what i'm told, 3 heavy hitters wanted Bob to sign up with NZDRA for 5 years, in the past it's been a year by year deal, seems the NZDRA support club is desperate to try n retain some tracks in NZ. Bob is willing to do the year by year deal. there was also some grizzling from the same 3 that they wanted to vote but MMP committe is a closed shop n there was talk of getting lawyers in to resolve. end of the day, nothing has changed, the track work is still depending on funding & it's highly unlikely they'll be racing on the new surface this coming season, unless someone donates a few hundered grand. Next year will hopefully have a surface to race on, but still in need odf an infrastructure to make the place a dedicated dragstrip. roll on next season.

I heard that fundraising was going well and the shortfall to a million was only 300k and a loan was on the cards to get a strip laid asap, is this bad info then!

Another $300,000 will get the blacktop down and thats the end of stage one. Then they need to be able to put in the other facilities that a dragstrip needs - timing tower, toilets, shower block, grandstands internal fencing etc.
The are still persuing other funding and the supporters group over Levin/Palmy way are doing a great job raising monies too. Bob hasnt said they will be up and running this season, but they are doing pretty well with the fundraising so maybe they will make it by the end of summer.

Neville, your info wasnt bad.
The raising of the last $300,000 for stage one came up at the AGM, and it was suggested by a NZDRA Board member that it could be funded by way of racers & supporters buying debenture IF Masterton Motorplex did the 5 years deal with NZDRA.
Strangely, NZDRA has never asked any other venue for a five year commitment.
Since the public registrations are closed, you must have an invite from a current member to be able to register and post in this thread.
