Grrr. those scammers who txt you

phillip.weston, Aug 4, 7:04am
Right so I've got a couple cars listed for sale at the moment, and right up until now I thought I was missing out getting these text messages from overseas scammers requesting that you e-mail them for more info etc

But last night at 5:30am I got my first txt message which woke me up the bastard, then going back to sleep I got a bloody another one from a different scammer at 6:30am.

The first one was from +6142444334 and requests to e-mail [email protected] and the second one was from 'walkingdall' (it doesn't show a number, just the name) and the e-mail for that is [email protected].

I was going to txt back in very rude words but I figured the txts wouldn't even go through anyway.

Rant over.

if you find out who it is, and depending how your fax machine works, I do an endless loop of paper and set the fax machine to send like 100 pages to them. Works well.

Got rid of the fax 5 years ago, everything can be emailed now.

Don't text back, Phil, all that does, is, confirm the addy is available for more shite.

A (fairly ingenuous) lady friend got one of those "You have won 1.2Mil. Euros in the Nokia Promo" txts, and replied to the email addy given.

After I told her it was a scam, she sent about 20 abusive emails to them . you should see the shite she is now getting in her inbox!

phillip.weston, Aug 4, 8:50am
yeah I didn't bother responding. Trademe sent out the obligatory 'Important message' e-mail saying a scammer has viewed my auction and not to reply by e-mail etc.

My wife got her first Txt scam (not cars or similar) last night. I'll never get one - never owned a cellular phone and don't want to.

Yeah damn those new age fangle dangle ringy things that can keep you in contact fi your in trouble. Im sticking to my mobile fire and smoke signals

nathanmac, Aug 4, 11:53am
I've only ever had one of those txts - it said something like 'I really like the car you have for sale, it sounds like just what I need etc etc'. Only thing is I'm selling a trailer not a car.Useless idiots probably can't even read English, just bulk send out a txt.

big_oily, Aug 4, 8:30pm
I keep getting the one asking what interior is like - posted back- interior is like you, crap. So far no more.

different type of scam - the ones for the iphone and general electronic goods are from people in NZ who just txt them and promise to send the goods once they have the money in their bank account, then they never send the good and then ignore the poor sod who purchased the goods.

The txt scam on cars originates from overseas, where they txt you from a foreign or unlisted number insisting they wish to purchase the car and they will pay you by paypal. They pay you using stolen funds, so you get the funds but only temporarily until the bank or paypal realises what's going on and reverses the transaction, leaving you minus the funds, and hopefully minus a car if they get their way. Another twist is they over-pay you by mistake, and get you to refund the over-payment or pay the extra for shipping to the shipping agent direct, who is actually someone who just collects the money and directs it back to the scammer.

Well hopefully they can catch those theifs as well then! Pity they can't drop them in shark infested waters.
Although it never ceases me how gulliable so many people are to these types of scams. I would be tempted to text back a very strong message especially if they woke me at 5.30am but I wouldn't want to confirm I had got the message.

Scams are generally computer automated. They send out 10,000 messages an hour. Its not a person.People have set up automated software to do it.When you get angry and reply, you are just fighting with a computer.
