what does vinyl wrapped paint jobs mean!

berg, Jul 12, 6:52am
Basicly as it sounds. They wrap the entire car in a vinyl covering

See last months Street Machine magizine for a very impressive Falcon whapped in brushed look vinyl. Looks awesome

that sounds weird.
sounds like it wouldnt last 5 minutes.
then any moisture under the wrap - rust issues!
Is this just a temp thing or is it supposedly a permanent way to cover a car!
Is the vinyl wrap painted, or is it just like a clear coat!

like Berg said - think of duraseal on school books. It can leave wrinkles which will make a crease. Just heat it up to get rid of them and to make it air tight.

It is great to put company logos and such on work cars. We have some cars wrapped that are completely covered from the roof to the doors, boot and bonnet with dozens of small company logos. As I understand it the wrap lasts several years and rust is not a problem. When it comes to selling the car the wrap is easilty removed.

One of the Sampson boys (Gareth or Scott! - Glendene Engine Reconditioners) made a great job of his E Series BMW race car.Looked fantastic.

wow cool.
sounds like an easy way to give your car a new paint job that you can remove when you decide you want a change!
And Im guessing it would protect your original paint job too!
So how long has this been an option as I have never heard of it before!
Are there any negatives to it!
Is it expensive to do!

hopie, Jul 12, 7:46am
been around for quite a few years. have you utubed it! It does protect your paint job, but depending on what your putting on there, I.E basic colour or full graphics it could easily cost more than a paint job.

"Great" to some maybe , but I would still really feel a bit of a c*ck driving such a thing. Sometimes less is more.

We done vinyl on a new Hilux for the mad butcher back in 2005. He wanted a Red one but there was no suply so we got a new white one vinyled red front to back. Then in 2010 we traded it back and had all the vinyl removed (took an hour) and even tho the ute had done 240000kms the white paint under the vinyl was still like new.

Is it Recyclable! (thought not). There is spray on stuff in a can in the USA. It only comes in basic 'colours' though - matt black etc.
