being tarred with the same brush as the guy who rides 88RAJ.This dickhead was swerving all over the bridge, tailgating like he wanted to become part of someones bumper, undertaking once we got off the motorway and if he wasn't doing over 80 in a 50 I would be very surprised. For people that have relatively little protection in the event of a crash a lot of the motorcyclists I have seen don't seem to respect that they aren't the only ones on the road.

you must be observant most cage operators don't see bikes, with or without motors

just because one idiot does that doesnt mean we are all bad. Car drivers are worse sometimes.

Musta been the day for it. Im a biker myself but was in a car today on the NW motorway. Guys on bikes split lanes past me all the time. Hey no worries guys I know theres plenty of room. But at 4.45 today between rosebank road and teatatu offrams some idiot on a black gsxr600/750 screamed past and walloped the mirror of my car with his own mirror. He knew he had done it. -onya mate

the performance of a bike does bad things to certian personality types
in my late teens/ early 20's, every journey was a race
no speed was "too fast"
of course tho, you need a few clues to survive riding like that week in, week out

Naaaaaaa, ya number just didnt roll outLOL.But you are right in what you say. I still get the odd shiver about some things ive done on bikes. Now we try to tell others to slow down, I think its just the way of youth and ya have to prey they get through it in one piece. With all the testosterone flowing about it dosnt surprise me at all what we did. But then there was only two things on our minds at any one time LOL. In saying that this generation seems to have gone a few steps further.

much the same as we did compared to our parents generation, and they did to their parents and so on.

at 19 years of age, i ride pretty carefully and treat every car driver like they dont see me (which most of the time they dont).

I saw a large impressive jap superbike parked in town the other day.
It had a traditional Japanese character printed on the side of the main fairing. I wonder if it said "Kamikaze".!

Chances are more likely it was a Hyabusa than a one way Charlie.

Gareth Morgan makes an interesting point about rider "experience, knowledge and ability" in today's Herald while discussing bikes' ACC levies.
I like his suggestions about introducing excesses and no-claims bonuses.
Not sure I agree it's fair to rape all motorcyclists because some motorcyclists crash. that's still no fairer than raping all motor vehicle users because some motorcyclists crash.

so why not make ACC what they are clearly aiming towards-an insurance policy.! Why not then give all road users the option. Pay ACC or supply proof of a comprehensive health insurance cover! When you look at whats beeing suggested it barely stops short of saying that.

Not only insurance for yourself though, also for damage to anyone else.
Compulsory third party insurance is common around the world for drivers. In Oz it costs me about $500 a year for it and it only covers damage to other people. Not their cars and not yourself.

The high fees are what happens when 'everyone HAS' to get insurance. It turns into a money milking machine.
I endorse 3rd party insurance though.

any accidents Ive had on bikes were all while riding within the law & being taken out by a car who 'didnt see me', ran a light etc. I used to ride like a maniac most times & was gone before the tintop could even think about changing lanes without looking or indicating.

It's not necessarily the motorcyclists fault but you have to admit that when we ride a motorbike we drive a vehicle that people often don't see as well as a car.
motorboy2011,

I have had far more scares with cars not seeing me than I have given myself by riding stupidly.

$500/year - i will take that. It is less than I am paying for ACC (rego + petrol tax)

There are old motorbikers and there are bold motorbikers but there are no old bold motorbikers

sorry bro thats something totally different. I mean specifically "health" insurance for the rider. So everyone driving /riding on the road must pay either ACC or have their own insurance.Mind you that IMO would apply to ALL road users -ie treddlies wouldn't be allowed on the road without their rego tag showing paid up insurance or ACC levvy
