Ive been told that these days an infringement for an expired wof incurs demerit points. I studied the nzta website and saw a list of reasons for demerits (it included unlicenced and unregistered vehicles and several other vehicle related (among other) reasons didnt list or mention unwarranted vehicles. I rang them and at first they thought an infringement for no wof DOES incur demerits but i got them to look at their website and they (somewhat surprisedly) admitted that it DOESNT. So now i'm just wondering if in reality, anybody has ended up with demerits for no wof!t.i.a

A fella at work. At first it seemed very plausible as i know that fairly recently theyve brought in demerits for things that previously didnt incur them. Im wondering because nzta and ltnz dont seem the most organised and im not sure that they are 'the last word' on it anyway, hence my seeking any recent real world experiences of it. Cheers.

Hi roadkill, can't help you with the WOF issue but certainly agree their websites are a mess. I too have phoned these departments and tried to get them to clarify what they put out on the web - it only leads to more and more contradictions. I am currently looking into importing a classic truck and cannot get my head around the Heavy Braking rule. I have read the entire pdf file, a good cure for insomnia aye

No current evidence of inspection does not in itself accrue demerits points. Unlicensed vehicles do though, if not a stationary vehicle offence.
Of course, we all accept that driving a vehicle that simply hasn't had a tax paid on it is much more dangerous than driving a vehicle that hasn't been inspected to a standard of roadworthyness, not stopping for red lights or running around crashing into things and calling those collisions innocuous things like "fender benders" or "dings". I mean, those things couldn't possibly result in a loss to property or personal injury, but not displaying a current license label certainly could. Right!

I concur wholeheartedly. However im still after recent experiences with wof infringements and if they actually resulted in demerits. T.i.a

Just remember its all about road safety and absolutly nothing to do with revenue collecting

huh!have i missed something! I agree strongly with the sentiment of your comment and at the same time i'm still after an answer to a specific question/situation-where's- the "not wishing to listen" in that!

Yes, TRH already answered your question:
"No current evidence of inspection does not in itself accrue demerits points. Unlicensed vehicles do though, if not a stationary vehicle offence."
Or to put it another way, you do not get demerits because of a lack of WoF.
But you will get demerits for lack of "rego", if stopped by a copper, (moving vehicle offence) but not when it is issued by aparking warden (stationary vehicle offence).

roadkill you're asking us to show you where in the legislation something isn't. Not possible. You said yourself you've looked at the list of demerit incurring offences.
So you have NZTA on the phone, couple people here, and your own checking all saying no demerits. You have some guy at work saying otherwise.
Your call.

oh, i see.I guess my point is that that reply is the theoretical one, where what i'm after if the reality on the street-which so far, no one has answered (i wouldnt put it past them to just be disorganised with their website and have omitted it when the hard cold reality is something different) cheers.
