SOCKET SET/s sorting out

kenw1, Jul 6, 10:54pm
I have a number of s/sets, probably none of them are complete.Am going to combine them into one Mega set.

What is the best way to lay them out, hang them in the workshop.

Is it still the bit of board with nails, screws in it.

How do most people set theirs out!all the mm together etc!

thanks.

Go and buy socket rails, makes it tidy and easy.

They are handy and beat the plastic holders that come with some socket sets . but while you are at it, have a think about the work flow(s) prior and in the future that will occur in your shed/workshop. Having all of your tools located on a wall at one end of your shed might prove to be an inconvienance if you find yourself doing the majority of work in another part! A sturdy table that doubles as a tool holding bench that is mobile is the weapon of choice for alot of mechanics. It allows them to place their tools right at the work face and store them where it suits when not being used. There can be a lot of elaboration on this but you get the idea. A lot of them incorporate walls for hanging stuff etc. Food for thought.

Trolley for the most used common tools
Wall for the oddities & rarely used gear

I would make up complete sets of1/4 , 3/8 1/2 inch drive sockets
then put the leftovers in storage according to size.
then putcomplete sets on socket rails.
