Is there a way to tell an engine if its interference or not just by looking at it!

You can find out by using the engine code, but sometimes interference engines survive when a belt breaks. Not often though. What engine is it!

Think this through for a bit and you will have your own answer. To help I'll ask a couple of questions 1) what does the word interference mean in this context! 2) what are the parts that will be DIRECTLY affected! 3) can you on any modern/semi modern engine see those parts (without diasembily)!

interference generally refers to the valves coming into contact with the piston should something happen to the timing movements (belt/chain)

I think the Gates site tells you which is which as long as you know the engine type code.
