1 for the locksmiths

Hi all.I've got a passenger door lock barrel that has had 15 years of dust and dirt and little or no use.Its pretty much jambed solid. Its out of the door and I gave it a couple of good soaks in WD40 and a blast with the air.

The key will go in now and it almost turns.

Any suggestions as to the best thing to soak it in to soften the remaining gunk!Meths!Petrol! Diesel!

graphite powder works its way into anything, locksmiths always tut tut crc and other 'lubricant' based fixes

graphite powder indeed. Excellent lubricant.

Would do that but the whole barrel is a solid block of dry gunk.Need to get that crud out and then try the graphite.

Maybe should send it to our favourite watchmaker and he could pop it in his ultrasonic cleaner.

I would give it a good spray with carb clean down the barrell or something similar .then air dry then lube with graphite dust.

Got a can of brake clean. Will give that a go.Tempted to stick it in the dishwasher but not sure how pleased "the boss' might be with black plates.

Diesel or ATF, then a good soak in a solvent to clean & dry, blast with air,
before a decent puff ofgraphite.
