I have recently purchased a new transmission oil filter for my Hyundai and on top of it says 'A/T only'.
Now, the question I have is, how are they different from engine oil filters! Have they got a different type of media used!

Just guessing ATF a lot thiner than say 20/50 so probably a different media which wouldnt handle the squirt of cold 20/50 at 60 psi maybe.

exactly right, a A/t filter has a much lower micron element in it due to the thin oil and type of particals its filtering

Thanks for the replies, I have seen once a 2002 Legacy fitted with a Z436 engine oil filter on the transmission. So, I wondered if they were the same.
