Does anyone know of a company that could do this .The bus would be 11m approx.thinking of buying for a sleep out but not to sure if would make economic sense

Probably uneconomical. Recovery of a large truck recently from New Plymouth to Rotorua was $3000 + GST. Would have to go via low loader and these aren't cheap.

Was that the West Coast of the North Island or South and can the bus move under it's own power or would it have to winched onto a transporter! Hook towing unlikely if it's been sitting awhile as transport operators don't want to experience the failure of old/seized wheel bearings.

Shades Trucking they move odd stuff all over.

To the West Coast South. Some one mentioned Rowe motors from Tauranga.i'm just getting a bit on a feel on here just in case someone has done this .The bus i'm looking at can be driven.

Drive it then would be the best option.Does it have a COF and REG!If it does then surely that would be the way.Mind you even if it didnt you could probly get away with it and even if you got fined it might work out cheaper. Is ther no buses down those ways!a sleep out would be cheaper wouldnt it!

Expensive to put on ferry and you may also have to pay freight cost both ways for the tow vehicle.

LOL. No been off the road for over 5 years.and no sleep out not cheaper,i have checkedout,by the time you get resource consent building permits etc it would cost a fortune,,only wanting something for my section on the coast as a place to stay when there .my home is in Golden Bay.my caravan was stolen.[ have add on trademe ]

Bummer about your caravan, ever thought about buying a very large boat project or sailing boat!pick up a cheap one and live on it on land, shouldnt need a permit to have a boat on your property.then again, when dealing with councils.

Would have to be towed as height restriction;s would void any chance of useing a transporter.

Unless on low bed maybe

Check coastal shipping companies too - they might be able to barge it most of the way

What about heavy haulage transport where the truck can tow the bus using an 'A' frame or rigid type bar. Look at these guys! http://www.aceheavyhaulage.co.nz/home

Try Kiwirail, as I think they should be able to do it.

Thanks guys/Girls couple good suggestions, never thought of Kiwi Rail, they go past my place on the Coast

How high is the bus!
If it's any higher than a container you could be out of luck.Height is even more of an issue with rail than on the road with a very restricted loading gauge.

Rowe motors, STL, even try the likes of Porter Hire as they may have a backload.
chris.f,

Probably unlikely asmentioned in an earlier post unless you can satisfy them the wheel bearings won't collapse enroute.

220 and hour will give you an idea. That is from the depot to bus ,hookin up,to the west coast and tow truck home . soon adds up:)

Can be transported on a low loader if the bus height can be reduced to 4 meters total height which shouldnt be a problem unless its a double decker. Ive shifted a few and lenth is the big issue as 11m of usable lowloader deck isnt common and would need to go on a heavy haulage low loader trailer even tho it wont be heavy, just because you wont find a standard weight low loader with a 11m deck (unless they remove the ramps after loading and it hangs over the rear of the trailer). If the engine is mid mounted they are a pain in the ar5e to load as the engine sump will strike the dovetail angle off the end of the deck to the ramps as it is being loaded and you need to stuff around running the tires up onto blocks as they come onto the trailer they may need to be winched on for this to maintain control. Also regardless of whether the engine is front, mid or rear mounted, they usually have ALOT of front and rear overhang from the axles which presents problems as they are being loaded onto the lowloader, so take pleanty of BIG blocks of wood with a angle cut onto the ends to allow the bus wheels to ride up onto them, dont use small stuff if they are being stacked under the bus wheels while on the lowloader deck because if it slips off the bus may well slip off the side of the trailer, once the engine or front and rear of the bus is clear of the deck and ground the blocks wont be needed, dont transport it sitting on the blocks, if all this stuffing around is nessassry use the winch as driving it on would be difficult. It is TOTALLY doable tho Ive done a few just takes ages to load and needs to be under 4m high.

Heaps of cheap sleepout / garages too in Chch from the red zones - might be way easier mate
