I've used Taiwanese made tools etc. for years and it's all good. Chinese stuff as you know seems of variable quality.
All the bickering between the countries (states!) is political anyway, something to do with the ruling classes legging it with all the money after the communist revolution. That's how they could afford to build decent factories. The Chinese are just jealous. There will be an invasion before too long.

Both these countries produce sweet and sour stuff.Mostly now good but some can be rubbish. luck of the draw, but expect quality to rise over the years.

I can remember when Taiwanese stuff was shite. Now it's actually pretty good, and it's china's turn to produce crap. If I am faced with a choice of buying china or taiwan, I pick the taiwan one - pretty good stuff. Not brilliant, but definitely well made.

Yep I've got to stand-up & say. 25 yrs ago I worked for a company that imported/sold machinery from both Italy & Taiwan. The Thai machinery had a bigger margin on price but was, in a lot of ways, better than the Italian stuff. Had more extra's & goodies as standard. Parts were quicker to arrive & service was better.

Both countries will build to a price - if you want 10, 500mm between centres lathes for example and have $100,000 then you will get quite good machines. if you screw them down to half that amount you will end up with a machine half as good but looks the same and on the story goes. there are no free lunches in either country.

Yeah mate f*** that, go to Taiwan. After my third Chinese wife broke down (no warranty either, gotta watch that) I decided to take the Taiwanese route.
