I had a Legnum VR-4 tiptronic with 206,000kms on the clock and I found it fine. The AYC system was a bit noisy when going around corners swiftly making the AYC bar graph light up, I would say it was due to the system needing a flush and new fluid/bled up. Common fault. Another common fault are the ball joints on the front lower control arms, they often wear out and the arm must be replaced as one whole piece as the joint doesn't separate from the arm.
Fuel economy is not great at all, I think I did about 350kms to a 55L tank of 98 and it didn't really get much better than that.

be prepared to pay the fuel bill! i had the galant version, great car, i personally had no problems apart from fuel economy.

yeah I was quite shocked with the fuel consumption to be honest. I think the manual version is a bit better, but even so my '91 VR-4 gets around 450-500kms to a 55L tank and it's perhaps 95% as quick as the 96 onwards VR-4. Am currently using a friend's '97 NZ-new Galant VR V6 5spd while I sell it for him, and it easily gets 600-700kms of kms to a 50L tank, pretty much half the consumption of the VR-4, but still plenty powerful enough to move along quickly.

ok 350 kms around town! or all up! cause my fto gpx was running pretty rich and would only do about 350 in town and maybe 450 on open road

I would say combined I think, though I don't think it would do more than 400kms even if purely driving on the open road. Your FTO probably has a smaller tank so 350kms could perhaps be only 45L or so.

yeah i think it had close to a 50 litre tank

x1
I've owned 2 of them and both of them had the same problems that pretty much all of them have, the AYC diffs are useless as well.
If you do buy one get it fully checked out by a transmission specialist mechanic and if you can afford it drop the AYC diff out and put another in from another vr4 without AYC

I have one and the only problem I have had is that I have had to get a AYC service. But as stated above it is a common issue.Mine is also a tiptonic and I have never had a issue with the tiptronic and dont know of anybody who has.
As for the fuel its same old same old.I have just recently gone toajob closer to home so I can really only comment on long distance travelling. It would take me 50 mins to get to work and same time home again and I would go through a whole tank in a week.A whole tank of good petrol is $120 ish which I didnt find too bad.
I dont know why people say "High fuel bill" when people ask them about cars.I mean obviously, its a twin turbo 2.5 litre car, its going to cost a bit to run in general
If you are able to head into www.clubvr4.comand they will be able to give you a huge run down on what they are like and what problems you will come across. They have been very helpful for me when I have been looking for aftermarket parts for mine.

Awesome cars, ayc is awesome, 4wd, twin turbo and the popo dont take a second look. Treat them well and service them as in the manual and they will be fine. People will ayc problems are because they never service the ayc and launch the cars.
