Can I use large hose clamps or will they cause unbalance in the drive shafts!
Is there a better way! Tie wire!

using the proper clamps! There is a special tool to do them up with, is usually quite cheap

Hose clamps will work. But as others said use the correct clamps + tool. Relatively cheap for the basic tool from Repco/Supercheap etc

i thought cable ties were great maybe your not using strong and big enough ones! i generally use nothing but cable ties but sometimes on the smaller cars the ends mite rub up against stationary parts and that wears the ties down fast. standard tying wires my nxt favorite.

Supercheap only has cable ties or Hose clamps. I will try a bigger gruntier cable tie.
Maybe the boots have gone hard to cause them to slip off!
Thanks men.

Are you sure you have the correct boot!If the boot is too short a full lock turn will pull the boot off the CV just about no matter what you use to tie it on.

Where I work we use (for non automotive purposes) cable ties that are 10mm wide and in varying lengths from 200mm up to 600mm, they are ideal for cv boots :D strong as anything

the cops use them as handcuffs.im sure they can hold a boot on

just keep to the speed limit , I find using hose clamps only unbalance the shafts if going to fast around left hand corners.

I used to use cable ties on F1 cars, make sure you have the ones with the metal lock tab,and do not stretch them when installing.

lol @ A hose clip. Its probably likely to wipe out on a ball joint or some other suspension part!

The end if the cable tie protrudes(the lumpy bit )and gets knocked off, because the air gap betweenthe inside cv & engine block or trans depending which side , is not enough gap.the outer cv prob the same cause Use the correct steel bands , can be tensioned with pliers if dont have da right tool. Some haveused a length ofms welding rod twice around with a neat twist ,side cutters & a wee bang in flush !
