Innacurate description or what?

The point is, it happens. Some owners, ( I singled out the Chinese, but there will be others) will choose a car based on the plate alone.Doesn't matter whether you get it, it happens.

The flip side is you're worried about # owners, whereas I'm not. So you just need to accept that different people approach things.differently.

bellky, Jul 31, 1:57pm
Yes people feel differently about things. Don't forget what we're talking about here: How mikenel feels about things and what was represented to them. Personally I'm the type that values such things the same as mikenel, and I'm not the only one.

mikenel, Jul 31, 1:58pm
Right but lets remember that is not what was told to me about the car which was:

I have a 2011 white xxxx done only 11,000kms.It's a demo vehicle so you would be the first owner! The best part is, is that it's only $xxxx! What a bargain!

If that was true then there would not be any issue with multiple plates or number of owners right!

smac, Jul 31, 2:11pm
Yes yes. Read what I've said. I agree that the car is not as described to you. You think the difference is worth 10% (are we talking $1.5k! $15k!) whereas the dealer does not, so you have a problem.Has he made a counter offer! If not, your time might be better spent sitting in that dealer's office.

richardmayes, Jul 31, 2:44pm
Wrong - as I said earlier, some dealers put personalised plates on their demonstrators.

mikenel, Jul 31, 3:11pm
You make erroneous assumptions Richard. First of all it was NEVER a demo car it was driven by a finance guy from a major brand. i.e. the makers of the car not the sellers. And it was not for "running around in it for a couple of weeks" as you say but rather for 6 months and 9,000ks. Then it was owned by a private guy who did some more miles.

mikenel, Jul 31, 3:12pm
None of the three plates in a year were personalised.

richardmayes, Jul 31, 3:37pm
Oops, my bad then. When you said

"One [owner] was a new car manufacturer (their finance man drove it)"

I thought that sounded like par for the course for a dealer's demo car.

Are there any other comparable cars for sale on trademe or in the yards at the moment, that might help you to figure out whether or not what you paid was a good deal for an 11,000km car!

countrypete, Jul 31, 3:54pm
There's a big difference between a manufacturer's staff's company car, and an un-registered demonstrator. You are only the "first owner" if your name is first on the papers. The car has been misrepresented to you.I would suggest nothing less than a full refund, then look for something else, not from that dealership. It's a slur on the dealer, not the brand of car.

mikenel, Jul 31, 4:41pm
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it coming from a man with such an impeccable feedback. It would be nice if the world was full of people like you.

countrypete, Jul 31, 4:51pm
I don't know this guy!

noswalg, Jul 31, 4:53pm
Get a room!

smac, Jul 31, 5:02pm
Doesn't matter, he loves you none the less! You told him what he wanted to hear, which is all he was after in the end. Won't help him of course, but you've made him happy for now.

fordkiwi27, Jul 31, 6:25pm
you stalking me belky bubz!

mikenel, Jul 31, 9:16pm
I take a lot of notice of feedback. Yours is very good. Therefore I appreciate your input. Funny the way things can be misconstrued when typed rather than spoken.

superdave0_13, Aug 1, 6:30am
You've been ripped. Go and drive it through his front window!

gman35, Aug 1, 6:38am
Would be great to at least know what orig. RRP $ the car is (without mentioning any brand/dealer still if prefer) and what you have been offered. As people say here , it may still be a great deal , but then also depends on exactly how bad the "repairs" are , and wether the $$ value of vehicle may be more or less affected by it (ie a "visually repaired $18k Holden Barina" won't be as affected in resale as a "visually repaired $100k Merc").

net_oz, Aug 1, 8:22am
You've had it for 6 weeks and now you've discovered some dodgy paintwork!
If you didn't check it out thoroughly before buying it, then why come on here now moaning about it!
Grow up mate.

supernova2, Aug 1, 8:33am
It comes down to this. Are you happy with the car and do you want to keep it!If so you are now just upset that you got misled but surely these bad repairs etc would have been obvious when you picked the car up.I don't think you have a snowballs chance if you are trying to get a "discount".If you are not happy with the car and the fact you were misled as to thge number of owners etc then you only option is to insist the dealer reverses the transaction.Make an appointment with the Manager/Owner and ask him/her what he/she is going to do about it.make it clear that you are "not going to crawl back under a rock" and they have to resolve the matter.Let them make the offer which you can either accept or reject.I don't suggest you should offer any suggestions as to the acceptable solution. In my experience if the dealer won't play ball ring the NZ brand head office and point out that its their dealer who is putting their good name at risk and do they really want that on fairgo etc.Usually the Brand will lean on the dealer. If you want to unwind the deal I suggest you stop useing the car as obviously you will need to be able to return it in the condition you bought it which wont be possible the more you use it.Also make enquiry of NZTA/LTNZ or whatever they call themselves this week and ask why the plates were changed and who applied for the new plates.3 plates in less than a year is pretty unusal especially when none of them were personalised.Ask the dealer who they bought it off and contact the previous owner and ask why they sold car.I woul'd believe thge BS about the previous owner died (unless of couse the car was in an accident) so they changed the plates.Given the time frame to get probabte etc etc the car is not old enough for it to be legally sold from an estate anyway.Point that out to the dealer. As as been pointed out before just how much is this car is it 50K, 100K or 15K.It really will make a difference as to how much it is worth doing anything about your grief.

supernova2, Aug 1, 8:44am
Also what date were the plates changed -are they about when ownership changed! If not I'd say all the plate stories are BS.Me thinks the plate was changed to hide something.Have you checked that the vin plates, engine number etc etc are all correct for what you have.Have you had it checked for major damage repairs.I'm wondering if it was an uninsured repair job (drunk driver maybe) or a stolen and refurbished etc etc.

countrypete, Aug 1, 8:56am
What you're forgetting is that buying a new or near new car can be a huge emotional and financial issue for many people. If it's the first new, or near new car they have owned then there is a huge pride in ownership, and it can be devastating to find, or even suspect, that the car you have bought is not what you were told, and thought it was.

It's also not surprising that a paint defect may not get spotted immediately. When buying that new / near-new car you can easily get lost in the moment, as it were, and not be looking for defects that you wouldn't normally suspect could be present.

As a previous poster said, stop using the car if at all possible, go back to the dealer and speak to the dealer principal - no one else at the dealership. It also doesn't hurt to involve the distributor, as while the deaership is likely an independent business, the franchisor has an investment in brand ad will protect that by ensuring the custimer is well treated.

Bottom line is that the car has been mis-represented to you - it is not what you were led to believe it was.

gman35, Aug 1, 9:00am
You want some opinions , it's time for some $$$ info mikenel please as to what sort of calibre car you are talking!

74nova, Aug 1, 4:26pm
Go back to the dealer, park the car in the entry to the show room, lock it up, go sit down with the manager and tell him the story and that you wont move until both parties have come to a resolution.

supernova2, Aug 1, 4:32pm
Good idea.

neo_psy, Aug 1, 4:42pm
Looks to me like you've been misled - maybe by a salesman that wasn't 100% up on the details, as opposed to the big cheese.

Is there any indication it was a write-off (Kaz mentioned it, but I don't see an answer) - Carjam might say. And Land Transport will know for sure.

Who are you dealing with now! Sales Manager or the big cheese of the dealer! And again, how much (approx) is the value of the car!
