I was wondering if anyone knew how long demerits are on your licence before they expire!

Two years after the offense or when you get disqualified.

Two years after the date you pay them isn't it!

Long long time ago, no longer. Gone are the days of holding off paying a fine until some older points drop off.

yeah iv tried google but it just states how many demerits you get for each offence not when they actually expire!! I am assuming its 2 years from the date you get them but then again do they expire long after you pay the ticket! I really don't know!

They get added when you pay or when you are found guilty by a court if you choose to defend the charge. However, once added they retrospectively apply from the date of the offense and remain for two years from that date. Been there, done that.

yes & no, if you get 35 demerits for speeding in say jan 2012,(and for arguments sake they they are due to expire in jan 2016) the in nov 2015 you get another 35 demerits for speeding again, the original 35 stay active until the most recently accrued demerits expire

They are removed 2 years after you pay the fine. Some of mine expire this month just keeping an eye out for John Keys revenue gathering nazis.

Not correct. The demerits for each offense expire two years after they were applied. On a ticket by ticket basis.

yep ralphdog you have it correct. Expiration has nothing to do with payment. Even if you haven't paid a sausage off the fine at the end of 2 years the demerits will disappear. The fine will still be there and they will chase you for it but the demerits will have gone. But you can phone Justice, there is an 0800 number, and if you give them your licence number they will tell you what is outstanding on your licence.
