Career change ideas?

attitudedesignz, Jul 31, 7:00am
Well this is a kinda follow up to my rant the other day.

I made the decision today that i DO NOT want to paint anything anymore.
I've got one job on at the mo' and when that's done that's it, no more.

Even tho' i've been painting for 30 years (last 10 or so just for the love of painting and colours in general) it wasn't a hard decision to make. Never thought this day would come and thought it would be a hard one but nope, easy as.

So the problem now is what to do.

It has to be car or bike related because that's me, i don't have blood, i have fuel in my veins.

My 2 thoughts at the mo' are car salesman, (yeah yeah whatever lol) for some odd reason i think i'd enjoy it. Hope to get some insights from the likes of kaz on this.

The other one is motorcycle restoration, biggest thing there is i'd need to get a couple out there to start my name off.

Anyway, if any of you have any ideas post 'em cos right now i have no clue as to what to do LOL.

Yeah yeah, make my own decisions and all but after doing one thing for 30 years it's abit hard. And someone might have a left (or right) field idea i'd never have thought of.

I'm putting this in here because i'm a car guy and general scares the sh1t outa me LOL.

Apart from painting / panel / mechanical work, what other skills have you got!

The only thing is you need to get the same or more money or you will never be happy. As its the pay packet that makes happiness
What about a fuel burner Bus truck taxi driver

philltauranga, Jul 31, 7:23am
Truckie! if you have a passion for driving, once you have the big gear mastered it is a really enjoyable job.

sounds like you wanna get off the tools so your'e an old school car painter from way back right. Do you have an "artistic" flair !Say someone comes to you with a 55 chevy, model A, or whatever, your job is to come up with a custom paint job design for it, flames, two tone etc etc.Not to mention custom motorcycles petrol tanks. You would have software on your PC to show customers what theircar/motorcycle will look like

Well, obviously you've done paint prep before so maybe a stripper ;-)
I like working on cars, but never had the sort of painting skills you obviously have (handy with a rattle can though !).
Given choice I always liked the idea of running my own wrecking yard - specialising in anything ~ pre 85 OZ and pre 80's Jap.Just because those things interest me.
The reality of doing that might be less interesting than the idea though, and with the advent of TradeMe it would probably not be profitable.
Plus places like Aging Auto's etc probably have it covered by now.

You've obviously got a real talent for design, what about doing some signwriting!

Only you will know what you want to do lol. Ive basicly been painting most of my working life apartfrom doing a sentance at repco and a 6 month driving job and 10 years working for the IHC in the woodwork dept. Oh and of course 10 years as ambo volly as well as paid work. But back painting again.
Would have liked to be a perm ambo but politcs got in the way of that.
As for you, well car sales would be good but it would be no different than retail work in the end so unless you really like dealing with tossers dont go there. Its something I wouldnt mind doing either mind you. But I guess if you have the ability to switch off at the end of the day then maybe its fror you.
I really liked the driving job i had apart from it went from 1am to 11pmish and that is hard on the body. The cross from night to day was a real hard. either all night or all day would have been better. But worked alone and very peacefull at that hour.
What about a paint rep! If ya can match paint your there already.
Media blaster!
Groomer from home!
Car deliveries!
Paint sales etc from a shop, guns and tape etc etc!
mobile windscreens!
Mag& tyre shops!
Let us know what you decide.
And dont sell ya gear.

mobile dent man, although Taranaki covered in that area, sales rep selling to panelbeaters etc, the best reps are the ones who could get a job at the place they generally sell to.

friendly_prawn, Aug 14, 8:22pm
how did you get on! come up with anything.
I have been chewing this idea over ever since I first saw this post.
I might have a very good idea for you if you havent already come up with anything.
