Which cam grinder?

dave653, Jul 25, 12:38pm
Was done back around 1995/6, has 'KCT H70-4-8' engraved on the end, I thought of Kelfords but no one wants to reply. Any idea who may have done it! I'm trying to find the specs on it.

try Franklin Cams, or Lynn Rodgers

I thought the KCT may have been Kelford Cam Tech!

what engine type did the cam originate !hey dave, all you need is a good deg wheel and a dial gauge. set the cam up in the engine and off you go ! trouble is @ what valve lift do you start taking measurements, some cams are measured @ .010"others @ .050" lift the thing to do is get hold of an original std cam and take readings, from say .004" lift you need pen & paper to write up your findings then change cams and redo procedure.if you do your paper work properly you can easily see the velocity & acceleration curves, then compare one against the other . just remember that total duration on a lobe won't change( excepting valve lash )and open and close points can be manipulated by advancing & retarding cam with respect to the crankshaft.the only fly in the ointment is if your lobes are worn, the readings become erratic and near on useless !does this help you !

Auckland cams has a Camdoctor computer cam analysis machine.

It came out of my 179 I built back in '96 (it still looks real good). I've just dropped a new 202 in with a Wade 373 cam, but the 179 felt angrier. I'm actually not real impressed with the 202 considering the money I spent on it. If I can get the old cam numbers, compare it to the new numbers. thinking about fitting the old cam into the new motor.

the-lada-dude, Jul 26, 3:24pm
are these both hydraulic cams!did you take the time to set up the cam in the 202some timesyou can advance the cam by 2-6 + degand it will make a huge difference !whatspecs has the cam grinder given you for the 202!

it will be Kelfords cam with that stamped on it. what do you mean they don't reply! are they not picking up the phone or responding to e-mails!

snoopy221, Jul 26, 4:59pm
mmm ya not gunna get a poo oh poo to do what a 179 or 186 will do.
and the cam sorta sounds more like a KENT stage 2and a half.
End of the day degree and lobe lift and centerline the sucker.

Both hyd, Wade 373.

Go back to the 179, I felt they where the best of the lot, had a great run out of mine many many years ago

cuda.340, Jul 27, 4:40am
yeah you'll have to ring, i got no luck with e-mailling these guys too. they have an 0800 number iirc, best to talk to horses mouth.

Kelfords rang back, been fairly busy. It was theirs, [email protected], .445 lift, 108 lobe ctr. Bit different to the Wade but I'd still prefer bigger. Started porting a 173 head, will fit VH valves. I have a 12 port too, but I'll have to make another inlet manifold to fit the triples.
