This happened to my son and he was really p*****d off but I told him that car wasn't meant to be yours, have a look for another one. He found a gorgeous car, cheaper, and bought it there and then. So get looking, you're meant to have a better one!

ya know this makes me laugh --gosh darn it TM is an advertising media like any other. NO more and no less. yet there seems to be some big mistique created around it

kazbanz when a vehicle is for auction, Trade Me becomes more than mere advertising media.

So they had a reserve of $3000 and someone offered them $3800.and you're pissed off that they accepted that!.Move on.

sounds to me like there was an existing bid (which had met reserve) and the owners then sold the car outside of TM and withdrew the auction!

Exactly. But to their detriment as well - I'd called and said I was interested.I'm guessing most people would at least try to play interested parties off one another.

they were obviously after a quick sale and didn't think they'd get much more for it, I guess if your on the spot cash is king! Send them an email offering them $4800 for it just to make them feel bad!

first in first served really. It looks like they removed the $3000 bid and let someone hit the buy now for $3800. I've been in the position where I've been too late many times, and it's just not worth getting hung up about it. Plenty more fish in the sea etc.

There wasn't a buy now.I'm not too fussed really, it wasn't exactly a once in a lifetime deal, I'm just surprised from their point of view - they new they had other interested parties, and regardless of what you think of the car itself, similar ones tend to sell for more.
I'm not saying Trademe should care.Sure it's annoying to have to keep searching, but mostly it just seems like they were stupid.I was trying to negotiate a straight sale with them, being prepared to pay cash and pay today.
