Who are you using for pre purchase inspections and what are they charging!
North Shore Area if anyone else wants to play.

kazbanz, Jul 29, 7:19pm
thunderboltmy default reaction is to strongly reccoment they use the mechanic they know and trust to do the job. If not them I reccommend car inspection services. they charge 145 for a 4 cylinder car.

Carl at In Car Automotive
About $130 I think, mobile service.

Thanks champ. Cheaper than AA even at members price. Do they do a cylinder balance check in place of a compression check!

thejazzpianoma, Jul 29, 7:24pm
No point in getting him to inspect anything European though. Not being nasty or having a dig but he has made it abundantly clear on here that his attitude to all European cars is terrible.

kazbanz, Jul 29, 7:25pm
definitely NOT--good???ol fashioned removal of the plug and a real compression test done

thunderbolt, Jul 29, 7:26pm
Japanese origin for this application Jazz. Safer to stick with a model with plenty of them on the road = more spares if needed.
Please don't take my post as a challenge

Have always used these guys www.carinspections.co.nz . Found them to be very up front , honest and thorough

thejazzpianoma, Jul 29, 7:51pm
LOL, that's all good then. I was just worried you were going to pay someone to check a Euro who was going to rubbish it whether it was good or not.

Bit like buying the Dog and Lemon guide and looking at anything that isn't a Corolla or Hyundai. complete waste of money.

BTW. you Jap car drivers must suffer a lot of problems, you always seem so worried about availability parts!

thunderbolt, Jul 29, 8:02pm
Actually my cars are from countries beginning with the letter A.

thejazzpianoma, Jul 29, 8:03pm
Ahhh, say no more!

johnf_456, Jul 29, 8:05pm
LOL, only parts my jappa has needed his brake pads, brake fluid, oil, filter, coolant, belts plugs, air filter, fuel filter nothing out of the ordinary.

Another vote for Car Inspection services - used them twice in the last few years.Helpful and seemed to do a good job (nothing extra has come to light on either vehicle apart from an oxygen sensor failed, but can't expect them to know that was going to happen (no indication during the test).

Algeria and Argentina have a car industry!

That's a real industry problem in general at the moment, not just with inspections but with servicing as well. The sales model is to offer a "service" with an endless list of important sounding checks.

When you boil it down though, the only actual servicing has been an oil and filter change. The rest of it is just an elaborate sounding way of looking at items instead of replacing them.

The customer still parts with good money and thinks they have actually achieved something. In reality though almost none of the manufacturers specified servicing has been done at all, often including very important items that are required to prevent catastrophic failure.

Then of course that just becomes fodder for those selling vehicles who's only redeeming feature is mechanical's so basic that they may last a bit longer than the opposition when subjected to such neglect.

BTW, while the customer still parts with good money its rarely enough to cover a proper service. So they think they are getting some sort of bargain and it puts pressure on others to offer this sort of smoke and mirrors nonsense. I see even Toyota dealers are offering a similar BS service now too.

Your rabid distain/contempt of corolla's and the like, only mirrors others feelings towards your beloved Fiat's.lol

Car Inspection Services are the guys I have used for about 12 - 15 years, happy to continue with them, at least 15 cars inspected for me.

thunderbolt, Jul 30, 9:54am
Used Car Inspection services this morning. Happy with the service I received.
