kazbanz, Jul 27, 10:51am
why not try the wreckers too-given its gonna be a demo derby --um sorry race car -a lot of the valuable to them parts are likely an inconvenience to you. might be a win/win-you get a driveable shell they get the parts they want.--is it strictly an off public raoads car! if so I could keep an eye out for one here (Osaka) for ya

cool project - assuming you'll be running the 1800 20 valve - LOTS of potential and some cool stuff on Youtube. also check Grassroots Motorsports magazine / website - they've covered golfs and these engines

Kaz,i would idealy like to have it road worthy, but not too fussed. How much for a damaged 1 fom Japan!

Yea thanks FR. Wanting something a little different.

any reason why a Golf!I have toyed with idea of daily driver / weekend track day car [increasingly I find the compromise flawed.] cheap Audi TT. Essentially the same thing, but I guess you can't get them as cheap.

i would say the golf hatch mk4 is not exactly the best for racing, you would do better to get the bora as that is the mk4 golf as sedan vesion, and if you realy go fast you can add a spoiler to the boot. also you dotwant a gti as that is not powerfull enough. you can get one with busted engine and throw out the drive train and fit the R32 drive train from a other wracked mk4 golf

trouser, Jul 28, 6:58am
I would use an audi a3. Lighter but the same running gear.

modie61, Jul 28, 7:19am
Thanks but im still not convinced the A3 would be a lot better and the R32 is too heavy in the front and overweight, the mk4 is a better balance,in my opinion.

vtecnet, Jul 28, 9:12am
what you need is a Mk2 Golf with the 1.8 Turbo 20v engine conversion.

modie61, Jul 28, 11:58am
Why ! vt

kazbanz, Jul 28, 2:00pm
hey modie--nothing crashed so far.

except a really nice glow in the dark one floating in a water pool -aparently euro cars are used to absorb radiation as they arent good for much else
(second bit was kidding first serious)

modie61, Jul 28, 3:36pm
Salt or fresh !

For power to weight ratio
You can bolt the rear subframe from a Mk3 VR6 onto the mk2 to upgrade the brakes etc also. google mk2 20vt

00quattro00, Jul 28, 5:25pm
Im currently doing this to my mk2 jetta, quite an easy conversion, it all bolts in, wiring isnt too hard.

The 1.8t has a tiny turbo, you could fart harder than this thing, the standard engine will handle 300hp befor you need to upgrade rods

kazbanz, Jul 28, 7:17pm
Im not game to go close enough to find out- the local cops are a bittetchy aboutround eyes getting too close to the fukashuma plant for some reason.

melanie64, Oct 8, 8:16pm
Sorry I didn't read that properly, ours is a TDi not a GTi, probably not what you're looking for!

hmm whathave you done to this car! if it is deregistered then you would have had to pay outstanding roaduser charges as they demand them to be paid then .
