Re there any sparkies about (240V)?

A fuse blew in the missus house (lights). It was one of those old push button ones, it wouldn't reset.I just replaced it with a new one, flipped the light switch and there was a flash from one of the bulbs (energy saver) and the fuse popped.Turned the light switch off reset the fuse and tried again.Same result.

Wazzup! Do I need to call out a sparkie!

There is a short in either the lamp or the light fitting. Take the lamp out and try it again

Yep, circuit breaker is trippping on a fault, hopefully it is the lamp, not the fitting, or wiring into the fitting,.

Oh sh!t

Took all the bulbs out of that circuit, flipped the switch and there was a flash from one of the fittings WITHOUT a bulb in it!

yes do what monaro said and sifty. try to eliminate the bulb causing it, yes or no.

You have a fault in the light fitting. Do not operate that light fitting and call in a sparky to replace light fitting and check and test to make sure there is no wiring fault aswell.

prob a loose wire in the fitting. No biggy but needs looked at, Can cause a fire if left so ideally remove breaker.

Okay.I'll get the light fitting replaced.

Okay to leave the tripped breaker in there in the meantime!

Tommorrow isolate the circuit, take the old fitting off and see if you can see where it is shorting.Go out to Mitre 10 and buy a new light fitting, if competent replace or call a sparky.

It's only two wires, how hard could it be! (Famous last words!)

How old is thewiring,if over 60 tears it will beTRS(rubber) which will have deteriorated to extent insulation has fallen off .Full rewire ! $$$$$
