Daihatsu Mira LX 1986 being weird again.

This problem is on-going.

Mostly my car is 100% reliable but occasionally presents a small problem.

On a trip of say 80km or so sometimes it decides to 'die' in that the motor starts to 'pull' and no matter what you do it will slowly stop.

The solution is simple. Just turn the motor off. Count to 20. Restart and continue the journey as though nothing had happened.

Its maddening as I can often drive on many trips with no problems at all. Then suddenly for no apparent reason this happens.

Yesterday I went to Christchurch and back and had no problems at all.

Sunday I went to Timaru and it did the "die" thing.

New fuel filter has been fitted.
New Plugs, points, Capacitor, Dizzy Cap, Leads all done.

Doesn't seem to be weather related. i.e. Rain or temperature doesn't seem to cause the problem nor does the time of day.

Any ideas where to from here!

Something floating in the gas tank and blocking the pickup every so often maybe!

That's possible I guess.Maybe need to get that looked at. Is it something I can do myself. I have limited skills with vehicles.

electronic ignition! sounds like an ignitor is overheating or cutting out for some reason.

Thanks for the suggestion but this is just old fashioned ignition. Dizzy, points, capacitor, coil, leads and plugs.
