Trailers and firewood

What is the minimum loading requirement of a trailer to carry firewood!
I'm aware the weight of firewood can vary (wet vs dry).

Thanks.

depends how big the trailer is, if you want to cart 4m wet loads you will be over the 2 ton and will require a braked trailer

Sorry, I should have suggested a trailer size - I'd be looking at a standard size of 7X4.
I'd definitely try to avoid wet wood, but there may be situations where free wood is available and I'd have to grab it. I'd probably have to take a half load, if that happens.
Thanks.

A full trailer will be fine. We load our trailer up with builders metal which is alot heavier than fire wood. No problems. 7 x 4 is not a big trailer.

Take it easy though 1/2m3 of builder's mix is 800kg + weight of trailer and that's probably overweight for an unbraked trailer.

Yea pauldw thats the key point, you get away with most things if you take it easy.

There is no minimum. There will however be a maximum.

I can understand the need for a maximum, but I am looking for a trailer that is capable of carrying a load of firewood without potentially damaging the bearings or springs. So, I don't want to buy a big trailer that is too much more than I need, nor do I want one that isn't strong enough.

Thanks.

Buy a NZ made one like Brent Smith etc, not the bunnings chinese ones, if you are taking more than a load of weeds to the dump 3 times a year.

most trailers will have on them a stamp with a max weight limit, my 7x5 cage trailer has gvm 1999 kgs some smaller trailers would only be 400kg max if not lighter, work out your max load and buy accordingly

I took mine with 2.36Ton to the tip the other day, towed by a falcon, no worries

Also think about the volume of the trailer. We have a Prescott trailer that is 2.5 x 1.3 x ! height. It works out a cubic volume of 0.93 cubic meter. So if the firewood comes just over the edges you have a meter. Makes it easy to see if you are getting value for money for firewood as most sell by the meter.

Best trailers you can getthose Prescotts, i have 5 of them.
