Trade Me - An important message -- ID# 000-908-238

ashwattau, Aug 27, 1:24pm
I just checked my inbox and it says I received this at 1.58pm today, which is nearly 2.5 hours after the auction had closed.

And.!

ashwattau, Aug 27, 1:31pm
Why is Leanne from TradeMe Support keeping tabs on me re: this "issue", and why do you think she sent me a warning email for posting my mobile number in response to a prospective buyer (who has hit the buy now AS HE SAID HE WOULD in the same question that asked me for my details) and thirdly why would I get a warning message to tell me that details of my listing had been removed by trademe a whopping 2.5 hours after the listing had actually closed!

Move on.

bitsy_boffin, Aug 27, 1:55pm
She won't be "keeping tabs".Somebody will have CW'd you, and your account will obviously already be recorded as having been warned.

You are not permitted to exchange contact details on normal ads, thems the rules.

ashwattau, Aug 27, 2:08pm
Well if I'm forbidden to write my mob number on the auction in response to the question from a prospective buyer for the purposes of determining if the good are suitable for the buyer then that sucks because it dramatically reduces my chances of getting the wheels sold!

bjdw, Aug 27, 2:30pm
How can you sell a car without having contact details!Who would buy a car without actually seeing it or having it inspected! Not me.

ashwattau, Aug 27, 2:33pm
Okay I still think it's all a bit backward. But as you say if those are the rules then I guess I will have to follow them.

ashwattau, Aug 27, 2:35pm
Sorry mate it wasn't a car. I was some alloy wheelsto go on a car. The issue was that neither the buyer nor I could say for sure if the wheels would fit his car or not.

The only reason I brought this up is because I thought that it people be in a way "penalised" for trying to help someone out.

If you need to show a guy some wheels before he commits to the buy now so that he knows for certain whether or not they will fit his ride then why should you be denied the opportunity to help this person for the sake of helping not only him but yourself. It's silly. It's NOT trying to sell outside the process of the auction it's only trying to exhcange details so we can meet up to find out more info about it.

Ok I'm pretty much over it now. Thanks for letting me vent guys.

I've bought my last two cars that way. Both of them have been great cars for me. Both in the $15k range.

guider1, Aug 27, 5:53pm
Exactly! lol. But they fail to see that side of it. I guess they'd all be happy to buy a house from nothing but a description & photo because EVERYONE is honest on this site. Tui anyone!

guider1, Aug 27, 5:54pm
And the day you get stung you'll be on here whinging about it.

rawill, Aug 27, 8:05pm
Yes it is tricky trying to sell stuff, especially car stuff, when there is no way to list a contact.

However that is the way it is set up and there is not much anyone can do about it! It is the way the site works.

ginga4lyfe, Aug 27, 10:15pm
odly you get the same kick up the arse if you simply say on the forums " you can contact me via my listing" and saying that is no less dangerous than the listing being there in the first place, also if you wish to place details rather than slap you around, shouldnt they say that they are in no way or form responsible for any bad effects from doing so, there methods are very backward to me.

peter148, Aug 28, 12:14am
Sometimes it's fair to let the buyer see the item before purchasing, such as trying on climbing or tramping boots, where fit and comfort are essential, but I never do any trading outside of Trademe, and I will state that in the Q&A section if someone wants to contact me.

rotormotor7, Aug 28, 6:07am
next time you could answer the question ~" I " cannot give you MY contact details ~ when asked for a contact number

hopefully they will get it and ask another question with 'their' number on it, which you don't answer and not seen by others till auction end.

clark20, Aug 28, 8:00am
However they stay on your history, so if you have sold a car before your details are still there, this should be removed after a certain time.

elect70, Aug 28, 9:49am
They got to give contact detailsout at some stagehow else are you to know where to inspect the car !

ashwattau, Aug 28, 10:32am
Hah that's sneaky. I'll remember that for next time.

jswanny, Aug 28, 7:22pm
I think in cases like this trade me will allow the seller to relist for free if the buyer does not complete the sale, Example: the mags do fit.
Not 100% sure though but you do see in a lot of traders feedback that someone was the winner of an auction but the sale was not completed.

i thought trademe ran like other auctions!u bid u own it ! and they have to give reasonable time for veiwing under the consumers guantees act.
