Driveline vibration

Hello everyone, just a quick question (Im going to ask, then go to bed, then check out the thread tomorrow if it hasn't vanished!)

I have a caldina 4wd with an annoying problem. It has always had a general but slight vibration when driving which I attribute to the driveshaft being a touch out of balance, but lately it has developed an odd harsh pulsing vibration that only happens on throttle overrun from 100kph down to about 87 - 90kph, goes away immediately upon application of throttle (mild, wild or normal).

For what it is worth, the previous owner had the clutch replaced at 203,000kms and the car now has 213,000kms on the clock.

Any ideas would be very appreciated before I go mad and throw silly money at it, cheers :)

Do they have inner CV joints! I would look there first (assuming you have done wheels and alignment).

Hello, I suggest you get the drive shaft universal bearings and hanger bearing checked. You will also need to have the drive shaft rebalanced if the bearings are changed.

Cheers folks, I think those ideas sound like a good plan to start with :) I'm going to put for new tyres on the car soon so I'll see how that pans out, and then I'll organise getting the propshaft rebalanced. My apologies, I did mean propshaft not driveshaft in my previous post.

Hi, I had a similar problem on my Toyota Carib 4WD, with the exception of perhaps the vibration part. While all the symptoms were of a driveline fault it turned out to be a faulty Rear Wheel Bearing. Might be worth getting these checked for noise.

Are you able to remove the prop shaft and road test without it!

we had a brand new daihatsu terriosdid the same thing.faulty drive /s in the end.as unclejake mentions, inner cv, good while cold but as grease warmed up in joint, allowed worn shaft to go out of centre = vibration

Funny you say that, I did notice after driving the car from it sitting two weeks, it was surprisingly smooth until I gave it the raspberry about 10k from home and it started the vibrations again so you might be on to something here, cheers :)
