If all of those who walked past with a beer in their hand had poured it on in the early days it would have gone out and there would have been flood under it.

Couldn't someone have just got in and driven to a safe place when it was just a little grass fire!

same thing happened at Meremere, a guy in a lowrider sat in the traffiic for ages to get in then parked on dry cut grass & dropped his hydros to look cool, what he didnt realise was 'dumping it in the weeds' wasnt such good idea with a hot exhaust.

We saw the same thing happen to a late model Corvette, parked the vette in a paddock that had dry cut hay went inside to talk to farmer. Car and paddock burnt to ground.

thats exactly what I was wondering. why didnt some one jump in it and drive it out on to the road before the fire got too established. May or may not have saved it but worth a shot. Nup, sit back and have another beer lol

I think a lack of keys might have been the problem

Wasn't there any water around that they could throw on! I was driving in the Coromandels and came upon a VW Kombie on fire. The flames were two metres high and I was worried the bush would catch fire. With half a dozen people getting water from a nearby swamp we managed to put it out.

same thing happened at Meremere at the 4n rota nats a few years back. 5 cars burnt to the ground because one car was bagged n they dropped it on the grass. no insurance either as the car in question was on dealer plates as it was an import & didn't comply with VTNZ stds.
