get lots more speed cameras. Still wont catch the really bad speeders . Just penalise the drivers who go 10kph over the speed limit. Statistics have it that most of crashes occur at intersections, mostly traffic light controlled intersections. So why dont they put in more Red Light Cameras! Reason could be that traffic flow is more important and its easier to create longer gaps between red and green lights to allow for the ones who dont stop. A traffic engineer in Lower hutt admitted to me that this is what they are doing. Sure Red Light Cameras are more expensive and the running cost to process and send out notices is higher but they would still recoup costs in a few short weeks. Maybe a Speed Camera supplier has "done lunch" with somebody.
