The range of bikes available in 250cc makes it impossible to answer that question. A GN250 might struggle to 130km/h A ZXR250/cbr250 four stroke multi is speed restricted to 190 and realistically is at its limit at that speed anyways. A tuned RGV 250 or aprillia 250 with "the wire" snippedis good for 240km

Do you still have an RGV! What year/model is it! Jap market or kiwi! Sorry not trying to diss your experience but there was a flood of speed limited RGV's came in and they were 190km/h bikes. The way to tell was that a "good" bike would rev right out to redline in all the gears. A restricted bike would hit the limiter in the ecu and on the actual speedo at about 7500-8000 rpm in top gear. Derestricting them was more difficult that you'da first thought. Fitting a kiwi speedo was the first step but you had to fit diodes inline to fool the ecu. Then there were the restricted zorsts and carby issues.Tharts just the start. Then theres gearing.Gearing for road use was always a compromise between being at the bottom of the power band at 100km/h and outright top speed. I think I ended up gearing the bike as a 5 speed with overdrive for road use. If you still have an RGV I can send you a bunch of guff on the 250 proddy legal tuning you could do. Nowadays with the new F3 rules it means we can start setting up barrels exhausts and power valves the same as the full on 250 race bikes from the 1990's To give you an idea an RGV250 held a couple of OUTRIGHT lap records in nz for a number of years and I still somewhere have a speeding ticket I got in the 1980's on my 87 TZR250 at 190km'h. Ohh poo what model RGV are you talking about VJ21<VJ22 or the VJ23! I agree the VJ21 even tuned was only a 60hp bike topping out at 200-210km/hbut the VJ23 with a productiin 70hp on tap was a different beast Even the VJ22SP (close ratio box) was at best a 220km/h bike Longer legs with a standard box but you need a looooog straight to get your top speed

Only the 2 smokes insn't it!
And why bother with a 250 now if you can ride a 650 BMW on your learners. Wish I could of when I started out! I guess a certain bike shop will be pissed they can't sell 20+ year old 250's for $8k now lol

Pebbles forgetting the learner laws for a second. Find a section of the nicest twisty roads around. Line up a bunch of bikes including an RGV250 or the aprillia "version" See who comes out the other end of the twisties with the biggest grin on their face. There is something about a GOOD 250 two stroke that is just unbelievably good to ride on the twisties. Now I'm betting it wont be the F650 thats flavourof the month(licencing is too expensive) it will be the ER5 and GS500 that become popular
