Parking Ticket.

Any chance I can get off this! It's $65 for no valid parking ticket/window pass while I was down in Wellington this past weekend at TSB Arena. Was issued by Parking Enforcement Services on behalf of Wilson Parking New Zealand Limited. Don't want to fight it in court or anything, just want to know if I can ignore it and it will go or if I should pay it!

For all those SA's on their keyboards: before you even get to chime in, yes I can afford to pay it and I know the whole "can't do the time don't do the crime" BS, I just want some advice and would just rather see it go towards something more worthy than Wilson's backpockets.

Cant ignore it. They'll just send it to the debt collectors & more fees will be put on top. Only option is writing a letter but if you didnt have a pass then you shit outa luck. Could go to court but you'd lose so waste of $.

gunhand, Aug 23, 6:10am
I would pay it, but wait as long as you can. Trouble is if they have the right to issue it they may well pursue it to such and end as giving it to baycorp or simalier. Then one day down the road you may well want credit for something and find out you can't due to a $65 debt ages ago.And it does happen.

moosie_21, Aug 23, 6:16am
Yeah that's what I thought. It has Baycorp in the writing in smallprint down the bottom, so they muct be serious. Definitely don't want to ruin my perfect credit rating. Ah well, was worth a try, thanks guys!

Did you park in the area to the left of the parking building! Has bus parking painted on the ground. Ticket machine hidden away at the far end. Has no signage stating park and display.IF so I got a similar ticket, went down the next day and took photos, send copies and got off the ticket. Theit covering letter stated area clearly signed. The only sign is on the ticket issuing machine. If you want photosget in touch with thewombleis at gmail dot com.

moosie_21, Aug 23, 6:48am
Ah damn that was exactly where I was parked! Already paid it, but thanks anyways, not much skin off my back. I was wondering what that machine was for lol.

Wilson are scum, and punitive excessive fees for breach of private contractual matters shouldn't be allowed. You didn't break any law, and they would be hard pressed to prove that what you did incurred any actual costs.
Wilson are foreign owned, and cook the books to the extent that they don't even pay tax in NZ, as they somehow manage to avoid showing a profit.

Send them a letter denying that you owe the $65. The matter then becomes in dispute, so not just a debt.

No private company has the authority to 'fine' you. Only the courts do.

thewomble1, Aug 23, 8:09am
Write telling them you are going to the disputes court because you have come across info/pics that clearly show no signage and you want your money back.
I am thinking of sending pics etc to FAIR GOfor their files.
What pissed me of was the $65 fine.OK for a few dollars but $65.
Might park there again and see what happens. I wanted to go to the courts because there are no signs.

How could you possibly know they dont pay tax in NZ!

mm12345, Aug 23, 9:10pm
Was reported when Raymond Kwok (Director Shareholder of Wilson's) was arrested in Hong Kong on bribery/corruption charges, Wilson's had been making "losses" on the NZ operations.
I assume they keep buying up and depreciating assets in NZ, at a rate greater than parking revenue income.I can't recall the exact figure, but think it was about $80m revenue.

hopie, Aug 24, 1:38am
fight it with that info and also send them an invoice for loss of income for having to pay the bill. must of taken at least 2/3s of the day

elect70, Aug 24, 3:05am
doesnt it just charge you for the time when you punch the ticket & pay at the machine otherwise the barrier wont go up ! used to when iparked therefor concert .

thewomble1, Aug 24, 6:43am
Yes if you use the under the building park but this is outside on the left as you approach the arena. There is no barrier as you go into the parking area.

aktow, Aug 24, 1:42pm
tell them to get fuc--d. there tickets are not enforceable as they write them out themselves. so what if they give it to baycorp. i told them tobugger off to. the carpark company was on fear go and they said to rip up the ticket.

Wilson car park
Reporter: Kevin Milne

Viewers have complained about the Infringement Notices they get for overstaying Pay and Display Parks at Wilson Parking. One viewer, who got a $50 ticket for staying 15 minutes too long, took Wilson's to the Disputes Tribunal and won. He argued that private businesses cannot "fine" customers, only charge them Liquidated Damages representing the actual losses the infringement caused the company.

The tribunal referee found that Wilson's were attempting to claim a penalty fee which they were not entitled to. The complainant didn't have to pay Wilson's any money.

aktow, Aug 24, 1:53pm
also applies to fines or tickets for no valid parking ticket/window pass .

come on,, wilson parking and wilson parking services are not the council. they cannot just write out a ticket,, it like you parking on my property and i write you out a fine.do not pay them. they have lost so many court cases,

granada, Aug 25, 12:04am
Tell them you dispute it and to persue the matter trough the disputes tribunal. DO NOT give them a reason. When they ring , write haress you etc just refer them to your original corresspondance and hang up.I may take a few years but they will eventually give up.

moosie_21, Aug 25, 1:37am
lol @ a few years. I took the first posters advice and just did it, can't really be bothered to begin with. It sucks because Wellington is so absolutely anal about parking and I live in Napier where you could park for hours on end with no ticket, and IF you got caught it would be something like $10! If I ever move to either Wellies or Aucks the car is going!
