Having owned more than a few older British bikes in my time I don't think I would ever use one as an aero engine, but in saying that back in 1958 it may well have been a go. It would be a great thing to own and have in your shed.

Imagine the joy of commuting to work (for an example) by a helicopter that was self built. Time from Birkenhead to office in Penrose = 11 minutes, by car = 1:50 minutes. The smugness would be palpable!
